View approved original text

This medication is used to help control blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It can be taken alone while following a diet and exercise regimen. If blood sugar control is insufficient with monotherapy, it may be combined with insulin or other oral hypoglycemic agents. Additionally, when blood sugar control is difficult with sulfonylurea drugs or metformin monotherapy, using this medication alongside metformin is effective. Therefore, this medication helps improve blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in insulin-dependent diabetes patients or patients with severe liver or kidney dysfunction. It is also advisable to avoid administering it to pregnant or breastfeeding women. Patients who have had hypersensitivity reactions to sulfonylurea drugs should also avoid this medication. During the first week of taking the medication, the risk of hypoglycemia is high, so it is important to check blood sugar levels frequently. Elderly patients, those with poor nutritional status, irregular eating patterns, or impaired kidney or liver function require particular caution due to the high risk of hypoglycemia. Symptoms of hypoglycemia may include headache, severe hunger, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, etc., and immediate intake of sugar is necessary upon experiencing these symptoms. Various side effects such as liver dysfunction, blood disorders, and allergic reactions may occur; thus, any abnormal symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a doctor or pharmacist. For effective blood sugar control, it is important to combine this medication with diet and exercise. When taking other medications concurrently, it is essential to inform the healthcare provider about all medications being taken, as the effectiveness of this medication may be altered. In cases of overdose, severe hypoglycemia can occur, necessitating emergency treatment, and in severe cases, immediate hospital treatment may be required.
