This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to its components. Patients with thyroid dysfunction, particularly those with nodular goiter or Hashimoto's thyroiditis, should avoid this medication. Patients with poor kidney function, newborns, and infants under 6 months should not receive this medication. Patients with herpetic dermatitis on the skin or those undergoing radioactive iodine treatment should also avoid using this medication. Severely ill patients or those with a history of thyroid disease or renal failure should use this medication cautiously. Rarely, allergic reactions such as shortness of breath and hives may occur, so if such symptoms develop, use should be discontinued immediately. Skin pain, itching, rashes, and irritation may occur, and in severe cases, skin ulcers or contact dermatitis may develop, necessitating caution. In particular, using large amounts during burn treatment may lead to electrolyte imbalance or kidney dysfunction. Long-term use may alter thyroid hormone levels, so thyroid function should be monitored regularly. Prolonged or excessive contact with the medication can lead to systemic side effects such as a metallic taste, burning sensation in the mouth and throat, eye irritation, upset stomach, or shortness of breath. Excessive use can result in iodine toxicity; hence, proper dosing should be maintained. It is essential to wash the newborn's eyes and skin thoroughly to remove any residue of this medication immediately after administration close to delivery. If symptoms do not improve, surgical intervention may be considered, and adequate fluid replacement and monitoring of renal function are necessary during burn treatment. There should be a one to two-week interval between thyroid diagnostic tests and the use of this medication, and health professionals should be attentive to changes in thyroid function. This medication contains iodine, which may cause thyroid dysfunction when used in large amounts or over prolonged periods. When infection is present, thoroughly clean the wound with saline before using this medication; rare shock reactions may occur, so immediate medical attention is necessary if abnormal symptoms arise. Patients undergoing lithium treatment should avoid the regular use of this medication, and its effectiveness may diminish when used with certain disinfectants or enzyme preparations. Pregnant or nursing women should avoid prolonged or extensive use of this medication, as it may affect fetal and neonatal thyroid function. The iodine in this medication can alter thyroid function test results when absorbed through the skin. In case of overdose, serious side effects may arise, including gastrointestinal disturbances, neurological symptoms, mucosal damage, and renal bleeding, necessitating immediate treatment. This medication should be handled with care to prevent contact with the eyes or mouth and should not be mixed with other preparations. After cleaning the wound area, it is advisable to wash off any medication immediately from clothes. Ensure thorough removal of soap before application, and when using electric surgical instruments, take care to prevent this medication from being trapped between the skin and the electrosurgical device. This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to prevent exposure to air and light and, if using a metal container, ensure it does not corrode.
