View approved original text

This medication is used for obese patients who do not respond to appropriate weight loss therapy (diet and exercise therapy). Specifically, it is indicated for patients with an initial Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or higher, or, in cases accompanied by risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia, for those with a BMI of 27 kg/m2 or higher. This medication is used as a short-term adjunct therapy for weight loss treatment in cases of exogenous obesity based on calorie restriction and should be used alone without the combination of other appetite suppressants. The Body Mass Index is calculated by dividing the weight (kg) by the square of height (m), and this medication helps improve health by controlling weight. Therefore, it is used as adjunct therapy for the treatment of obesity.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious heart disease if used in conjunction with other appetite suppressants, so it must be used alone and only for a short duration. Special caution is advised if taken for more than three months as this significantly increases the risk of a rare heart disease called pulmonary arterial hypertension. It is also advisable to undergo heart examinations before and during treatment with this drug due to the risk of heart valve disease. This medication should not be used by individuals with certain cardiovascular diseases, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, those in a state of mental unrest, or those with a history of substance abuse. Additionally, it should not be administered to children under 16 years old, pregnant women, or individuals with hereditary lactose intolerance. Individuals with mild hypertension, nursing mothers, and diabetic patients should be particularly cautious; diabetic patients may require insulin dose adjustments. This medication can cause cardiovascular side effects such as rapid heartbeat or increased blood pressure, as well as central nervous system side effects like anxiety, insomnia, and dizziness. In case of excessive dosage, severe symptoms like anxiety, coma, and convulsions may occur; therefore, the prescribed dosage should be strictly adhered to. This medication affects the central nervous system, so caution is required during driving or operating machines, and abrupt fatigue and depression may occur upon discontinuation of use. Keep this medication out of reach of children and use it cautiously due to its classification as a narcotic with potential for dependence and abuse.
