This medication is used in the treatment of essential hypertension. If blood pressure is not sufficiently controlled by telmisartan alone, this medication can be added to effectively manage blood pressure. How to take

Adult dose

For patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with telmisartan alone, take this medication once daily with a drink, regardless of meals. The combination drug telmisartan/hydrochlorothiazide 40/12.5mg, 80/12.5mg, and 80/25mg can be administered to patients whose blood pressure is not controlled with telmisartan alone. Prior to taking this medication, sodium or blood volume depletion should be improved, and kidney function should be evaluated.

Child dose

The safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established in children under 18 years of age; therefore, it shouldn't be administered.

Precautions

This medication can pose serious risks to the fetus during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters; therefore, it should be discontinued immediately if pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to the components of this medication, certain liver or kidney diseases, pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use it. Elderly patients and those with certain heart, liver, or kidney diseases should use this medication cautiously and be careful not to let their blood pressure drop too low. Due to the increased risk of skin cancer, exposure to sunlight should be minimized, and any skin changes should be reported to a doctor immediately. This medication can cause various side effects, so if symptoms such as dizziness, hypotension, or electrolyte imbalances occur, medical consultation should be sought immediately. Due to many drug interactions, blood pressure, kidney function, and electrolyte levels should be checked frequently when used in combination with other medications, especially with lithium, potassium supplements, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. If you are planning a pregnancy, it is recommended to switch to a safer antihypertensive medication. This drug should not be taken while breastfeeding, and it is not recommended for children as safety has not been established. Overdose may result in hypotension, electrolyte disturbances, and dehydration symptoms; a medical institution should be visited immediately. While taking this medication, care should be taken when driving or operating machinery due to potential dizziness or drowsiness, and this medication should be stored away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
