Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections
This medication is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections, particularly initial and recurrent genital herpes and cold sores.
This medication should be applied to the affected area 5 times a day at approximately 4-hour intervals. Treatment should continue for 5 days, and if not improved after 5 days, it may be used for an additional 5 days.
This medication should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to this medication or its components. It is safely not recommended for nursing women and children. This medication contains propylene glycol, so caution is advised for patients who are allergic or sensitive to this substance. It should be administered with caution to immunocompromised patients, such as those with AIDS or those who have received a bone marrow transplant. When using this medication, pain or discomfort may occur if there are ulcers in the genital area. After use, temporary burning sensations, mild pain, skin rash, contact dermatitis, itching, and skin irritation may occur. Caution is advised as the skin may become slightly dry, peel, or redden. It is advisable to begin treatment as early as possible when symptoms first appear, and early treatment is also recommended for recurrences. The prescribed dosage, frequency, and treatment duration must be strictly followed, and it should not be used by asymptomatic individuals. This medication is not intended for infection prevention or recurrence prevention. While the possibility of resistance development is low, it cannot be completely excluded, so caution should be exercised. This medication should not be diluted or mixed with other medications. Interactions between this medication and others are not known, but systemic administration may affect the blood concentration of some medications. Pregnant women should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, as there is insufficient safety data for pregnant women. It is advisable not to breastfeed while using this medication. Safety and effectiveness have not been established for children, so it is safest not to use it in pediatrics. This medication is for topical use only and should not be applied to mucous membranes such as eyes, mouth, or vagina. Care should be taken as irritation may occur if used on mucous membrane areas. To prevent the spread of the medication to other areas or to others, it is recommended to wear gloves or rubber gloves during application.
