Precautions

This medication should not be used by certain patients. People who have had allergic reactions to this drug or other piroxicam preparations should not take it. Patients with a history of asthma attacks known as aspirin-induced asthma, or those who have experienced hives, rhinitis, or angioedema due to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should also avoid this medication. Additionally, it should not be administered to children under the age of 14. Patients with bronchial asthma should use this medication with caution, and it should also be used carefully if the patient has an allergy to propylene glycol, which is an ingredient in this medication. Using this medication may result in symptoms such as skin itchiness, redness, rash, scaly skin peeling, eczema, contact dermatitis, and erythema. In severe cases, discontinuation of the medication is necessary. With prolonged or excessive use, nausea, gastrointestinal discomfort, respiratory difficulties, and kidney issues may occur, so caution is advised. Although this medication aids in alleviating symptoms, it does not treat the underlying cause, so it should be understood and used accordingly. When using it for inflammation accompanied by skin infections, it may mask the infection, so use of antibiotics or antifungal medications should be considered, and the condition should be closely monitored. In cases of chronic arthritis, other treatment methods should also be considered in addition to medication therapy, and careful monitoring of any side effects is necessary. Pregnant women in the third trimester should not use this medication. Use during this period can lead to delayed delivery, bleeding, and heart and kidney issues in the newborn. In early to mid-pregnancy, animal studies have not shown fetal toxicity, but safety in humans remains uncertain, hence caution is advised. Moreover, it is recommended that breastfeeding women do not use this medication as it may be excreted in breast milk. Safety has not been established for premature infants, newborns, breastfed infants, toddlers, and children, so use in these populations should be avoided. Elderly patients are at higher risk for side effects, so they should only use this medication at the minimum effective dose when necessary, and with caution. This medication should not be used on areas with wounds, eczema, infections, burns, or on the eyes and mucous membranes. It should not be applied using occlusive dressings, and caution is warranted as temporary irritation may occur in cases of skin damage.
