Efficacy & effects

Improvement of chronic hepatitis (elevated ALT)

  • Elevated ALT
  • chronic hepatitis
View approved original text

Chronic hepatitis with persistently elevated ALT levels indicates ongoing hepatocyte damage and inflammation. In such cases, treatment is necessary to normalize liver function and alleviate inflammation. Generally, chronic hepatitis treatments are used to reduce liver cell damage and improve liver function. Additionally, they help decrease the risk of cirrhosis or liver cancer due to chronic hepatitis. Such treatments play an important role in maintaining the patient's liver health and preventing disease progression. Therefore, this medication is used to manage chronic hepatitis and the resulting elevated ALT levels.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to this medication or any of its components. Patients with chronic active hepatitis or cirrhosis should exercise extra caution when using this medication. While using this medication, side effects such as dry mouth, nausea, and skin rash may occur; if these symptoms arise, taking an allergy medication may alleviate them. Transient jaundice may also develop; in this case, discontinuing the medication or using a jaundice treatment can improve symptoms. Occasionally, nausea or abdominal bloating may occur, but these symptoms usually resolve quickly. This medication may improve liver function tests when used in conjunction with a medication called inosine. It is safest for women who are pregnant or potentially pregnant, as well as those who are breastfeeding, not to take this medication. Elderly individuals may have diminished body function; therefore, it is important to use this medication carefully, possibly reducing the dosage. It is rare for liver levels to rise again during treatment, although stopping the medication can lead to an increase; however, resuming medication can lead to improvement. Keep out of reach of children and store the medication in its original container. Transferring the medication to another container may reduce its efficacy or cause accidents, so it must be securely stored in the original container.
