Precautions

This medication should not be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and to breastfeeding women. Patients with serious gastrointestinal issues such as gastrointestinal bleeding or perforation may find that this medication stimulates gastrointestinal motility and could be at risk. Patients with certain types of tumors, such as pheochromocytoma, should not use this medication as it may raise blood pressure. Patients with allergic reactions to this medication or those who cannot tolerate it should avoid taking it. Patients with liver diseases or psychiatric disorders, especially those in the early stages of bipolar disorder, should not be administered this medication as it may worsen symptoms. Patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly should be especially cautious when using this medication, and dosages should be adjusted for children due to the risk of extrapyramidal symptoms. During the course of treatment with this medication, hormonal-related side effects such as amenorrhea, excessive lactation, and gynecomastia may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Neurological side effects such as tremors, abnormal tongue movements, and anxiety may rarely appear; if these symptoms occur, the use of the medication should be discontinued. With prolonged use, involuntary movements may appear around the face or mouth; in such cases, the medication should also be stopped. Gastrointestinal side effects such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur, so symptoms should be carefully watched. Cardiac-related side effects like hypertension and arrhythmias may happen, so it is advisable to periodically check the heart condition. Rare but serious side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome, wherein high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness may occur; if these symptoms manifest, the medication should be promptly stopped and medical attention should be sought. Skin rashes or swelling may rarely occur, so if these symptoms appear, discontinue the medication and consult a doctor. Symptoms like drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, and fatigue may occur during treatment with this medication, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, so especially when taken with anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, or other psychiatric medications, it is best to consult a doctor or pharmacist. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not take this medication, and elderly patients should carefully regulate the dosage and intervals due to the risk of increased drug concentration from reduced kidney function. This medication suppresses vomiting, which may mask or exacerbate vomiting symptoms caused by other conditions, so caution is required. Prolonged high-dose usage may increase the risk of reproductive organs or hormone-related tumors, thus regular check-ups are necessary.
