This medication is used as a local anesthetic and may cause a rare blood disorder called methemoglobinemia. Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital methemoglobinemia, heart or lung damage, and infants under 6 months old are particularly sensitive to this condition, hence caution is required. This medication should not be used in patients allergic to the ingredients or amide-type local anesthetics, in areas with wounds or dermatitis, in infants under 3 months old, or in premature infants. Patients with anemia or liver disease, elderly patients, and frail patients should use this medication cautiously, and those with allergies to propylene glycol included in this medication should also be cautious. Topical application may cause temporary pallor, redness, swelling, mild initial burning sensation, itching, paresthesia, skin irritation, or corneal irritation. Rarely, allergic reactions or severe cases of anaphylactic shock can occur. It is important to avoid contact with the eyes or ears, and if contact occurs, they should be rinsed immediately as it may cause irritation and damage. The risk of methemoglobinemia may increase when used with other medications, so consultation with healthcare professionals is required when used with other local anesthetics or certain antibiotics and anticancer drugs. There have been no reported risks to the fetus during pregnancy, but the benefits and risks should be carefully considered when used, and caution is necessary during breastfeeding. It is recommended to use this medication in children, especially infants under 3 months, with restrictions and to avoid use on the genital mucosa. In case of overdose, side effects may occur in the central nervous system and cardiovascular system, and immediate medical attention should be sought. The absorption rate of this medication may vary depending on the skin condition or application area, so appropriate dosages and times should be followed as per medical guidance. Long-term high-dose use should be avoided due to experimental results in animals indicating potential carcinogenicity.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
