Efficacy & effects

Anesthesia effect for dental infiltration and nerve block

View approved original text

This medication is used for nerve block and infiltration anesthesia to safely reduce pain during dental procedures. Nerve block anesthesia eliminates sensation in a broad area by blocking nerves, while infiltration anesthesia reduces local pain in specific areas to minimize discomfort for the patient during treatment. These anesthesia methods effectively manage pain during dental treatment or oral surgery, providing a comfortable treatment environment.

Precautions

This drug is an amide-type local anesthetic and should not be used in certain patients. First, individuals allergic to this drug or other amide-type local anesthetics should not be administered this medication. Also, patients with hypersensitivity to vasoconstrictors should avoid using this drug. Those with hypertension, arteriosclerosis, heart failure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or vascular diseases should consult a physician before using this medication. There are particularly cautious patients when using this drug. Patients using halothane or other halogen-containing inhalation anesthetics, or those taking tricyclic antidepressants or MAO inhibitors should be administered with caution. Older adults or patients with cardiac conduction disorders may also show worsening symptoms, so care should be taken. Patients with severe hepatic or renal dysfunction may easily exhibit signs of drug toxicity, requiring caution. Furthermore, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should only use this medication if the benefits outweigh the risks. This drug contains sodium metabisulfite, which can cause severe allergic reactions or asthma attacks in some patients. Such reactions may occur more frequently in asthma patients, so caution is warranted. When using this drug, there is a risk of shock or acute toxicity symptoms, thus the patient's condition should be closely monitored; if any unusual symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate measures taken. Severe adverse reactions may include hypotension, abnormal pulse, respiratory depression, and malignant hyperthermia, which may occur rarely. In such cases, drug administration should be stopped immediately, and professional treatment is required. Central nervous system adverse symptoms may include tremors, seizures, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, and nausea; careful observation is necessary. This drug can interact with other medications, necessitating caution when used with halothane, tricyclic antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, beta-blockers, alpha-blockers, psychiatric medications, and vasoconstrictors. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should exercise caution regarding the administration of this drug, considering its effects on the baby during breastfeeding. Older adults may be more sensitive to the epinephrine in this drug, so administration should be done with careful monitoring of their condition. In case of overdose, there may be severe symptoms affecting the central nervous and cardiovascular systems; if symptoms appear, immediate notification to medical personnel is required, along with appropriate emergency treatment. Finally, this drug is strictly for dental use only and should not be used for other purposes.
