Precautions

This drug is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and only lowers blood sugar levels when insulin is present. This drug can put stress on the heart, so it should not be used in patients with congestive heart failure or a history of heart failure. During treatment, fluid retention may occur, leading to swelling and increasing the risk of worsening heart failure, so careful monitoring is necessary. If symptoms of heart failure, such as shortness of breath or swelling, occur during treatment, notify the healthcare provider immediately. This drug should not be used in patients with active bladder cancer or a history of bladder cancer, and if symptoms such as hematuria or urinary difficulties develop during treatment, inform the physician immediately. Since this drug may affect liver function, regular liver function tests should be conducted before and during treatment, and if liver dysfunction is suspected, consult a healthcare provider immediately. This drug may cause weight gain and edema, so careful management is necessary if there are changes in weight or symptoms of swelling. There is a risk of hypoglycemia, so when used in combination with insulin or other hypoglycemic agents, pay attention to symptoms of hypoglycemia, and dosage adjustments may be needed as necessary. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this drug, and women of childbearing age should use appropriate contraceptive methods to prevent pregnancy. Elderly patients or those with impaired renal and liver function require closer monitoring when taking this drug. During treatment, adhere to the prescribed times and dosages, and do not double the dose the next day if a dose is missed. Regular checks of blood sugar and glycosylated hemoglobin should be performed to confirm blood sugar control. There may be drug interactions, so if taking other medications, inform the physician or pharmacist. This drug is not recommended for children as its safety and efficacy have not been established.
