Who takes it
Adults
Adult dose
1. Essential hypertension 1) Adults (1) For the first 2 days, administer 12.5 mg of carvedilol orally once daily, then administer 25 mg orally once daily. (2) The usual dose is 25 mg orally once daily for 2 weeks. If an increase is needed, increase to 25 mg twice daily. The maximum dose per administration is 25 mg, and the maximum daily dose is 50 mg. 2) Older adults In some older adults, 12.5 mg once daily may provide sufficient effect. However, if the effect is insufficient after 2 weeks of treatment, the dose may be increased. 2. Chronic stable angina 1) For the first 2 days, administer 12.5 mg of this medicine twice daily orally, then administer 25 mg twice daily orally. 2) The usual dose is 25 mg twice daily for 2 weeks. If an increase is needed (excluding older adults), the dose may be increased up to 50 mg twice daily. 3. Congestive heart failure 1) The initial dose is generally 3.125 mg of this medicine orally twice daily for 2 weeks. If the patient tolerates this treatment well, increase the dose to 6.25 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, then increase to 12.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, and then increase to 25 mg twice daily. 2) Increase the dose gradually after taking each dose level for at least 2 weeks, up to the dose tolerated by the patient. 3) The minimum effective dose is 6.25 mg twice daily. The maximum dose is 25 mg twice daily for patients weighing 85 kg or less, and 50 mg twice daily for patients weighing more than 85 kg. 4) To control the rate of absorption, it is recommended to take the medicine with meals in the morning and evening. Taking it with meals slows the rate of absorption and may reduce the incidence of orthostatic hypotension.

Precautions

This medication is often contraindicated for certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or any of its components, patients with severely impaired cardiac function, patients with bradycardia, patients with heart problems related to the lungs, and patients with serious metabolic issues due to diabetes. Moreover, patients with asthma or chronic lung diseases, as well as pregnant or nursing women, should not use this medication. Caution is also needed for patients with genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. When using this medication, careful administration is necessary for diabetic patients, patients with severe allergic reactions, patients with impaired cardiac and renal function, the elderly, and patients with low blood pressure, as these individuals may be more sensitive to the side effects or effects of this medication, requiring close monitoring by healthcare professionals. This medication can affect the central nervous system, potentially causing symptoms such as dizziness, headache, and fatigue, and may lead to serious cardiovascular side effects. Regular heart function checks are important, as the heart rate may slow down excessively or blood pressure may drop too low. In patients with impaired renal function, kidney functionality may deteriorate, and respiratory problems may lead to difficulty breathing. This medication may also affect the gastrointestinal system, causing nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Allergic reactions such as hives, itching, and rashes may occur, and if liver dysfunction occurs, medical attention should be sought immediately. This medication has many potential drug interactions, so any other medications being taken should be reported to healthcare professionals. Particularly, the risk of side effects may increase when taken with blood pressure medications, diabetes medications, heart medications, antidepressants, anesthetics, or alcohol. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and it is advisable not to administer it to children and adolescents due to the lack of established safety and efficacy. Elderly patients, whose liver function may be impaired, should start with a lower dosage and be monitored carefully. In cases of overdose, serious symptoms such as low blood pressure, decreased heart rate, impaired cardiac function, shock, and difficulty breathing may occur, necessitating immediate contact with a medical institution for appropriate treatment. Regular heart function tests should be conducted if this medication is taken long-term, and sudden discontinuation may worsen symptoms, so the dosage should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions. During treatment, dizziness or drowsiness may occur, so caution is advised when driving or manipulating hazardous machinery, and the medication should be stored in a tightly closed container, protected from light and out of reach of children.
