Precautions

This medication is not advisable for use in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as in women who are breastfeeding, as its safety has not been established. In patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or mechanical obstruction, or those at risk of perforation, this drug should not be administered as it may stimulate gastrointestinal motility and exacerbate the condition. It is also not safe for patients with specific tumors such as pheochromocytoma, as it may increase blood pressure. Administration should be avoided in patients with an allergy to this medication or those who cannot tolerate it. In patients with liver disease or in a manic state of bipolar disorder, this medication may worsen symptoms, so it is advisable not to use it. Caution is necessary in patients with malignant mammary disease with abnormalities in the mammary glands, as this drug may increase prolactin secretion and cause breast-related issues. Use with caution in hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly, especially since children are prone to extrapyramidal symptoms; therefore, overdose should be avoided. When taking this medication, observe for hormonal changes such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia as side effects. Neurological symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, restlessness may occur rarely, and if these symptoms arise, use should be discontinued immediately. Prolonged use can cause involuntary movements around the mouth and elsewhere, which may persist even after discontinuation, thus warranting attention. Gastrointestinal side effects like dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur, so symptoms should be monitored. Cardiovascular abnormalities such as hypertension or arrhythmia may arise, requiring careful monitoring of heart health. Rare cases of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome have been reported, with symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, and changes in consciousness; if these occur, the medication must be stopped immediately, and emergency treatment should be sought. Other rare side effects may include rash, edema, flushing, fatigue, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, unsteadiness, erectile dysfunction, and changes in libido; any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare professional. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery while taking this medication. This medication may interact with other drugs, so special care is needed, especially with anticholinergic agents, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, other benzamide drugs, psychiatric medications, alcohol, drugs that prolong the QT interval, and drugs that cause electrolyte abnormalities. In the elderly, due to decreased kidney function, the medication may remain in the body longer, increasing the risk of side effects; therefore, adjust dosage and intervals cautiously. This medication has an antiemetic effect, which may mask vomiting symptoms caused by other conditions, so it should be used with careful monitoring.
