This medication is effective against various bacteria and is used to treat ophthalmic conditions such as blepharitis, dacryocystitis, chalazion, conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis, keratitis (including corneal ulcers). It is also used for asepsis before and after ophthalmic surgery. It helps treat and prevent various eye inflammations and infections.
Instill (apply) 1 drop in the affected eye(s) 3 times daily. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to symptoms.
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to quinolone antibiotics. Severe allergic reactions, including symptoms of shock, may infrequently occur, thus if symptoms such as nausea, coldness in limbs, or difficulty in breathing appear, the administration should be immediately stopped, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Additionally, if signs of hypersensitivity including cardiovascular collapse, loss of consciousness, swelling of the face or neck, difficulty breathing, skin rashes, hives, or itching occur, administration must be ceased. Transient burning, irritation, or discomfort may occur in the eyes, and if symptoms such as pain, redness, itching, conjunctivitis, keratitis, facial swelling, photophobia, or blurred vision arise, stop using it. In rare cases, dizziness or serious corneal complications, as well as severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may occur; if abnormal symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately. Hearing impairment or irritation symptoms may also arise. To prevent the development of resistant strains, sensitivity testing should be conducted, and it should only be used for the minimum effective duration; prolonged use may lead to overgrowth of fungi or non-susceptible bacteria, thus it should be avoided. For trachoma treatment, standard dosing should be done for 8 weeks, and further use after that should be approached cautiously. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing soft contact lenses. For women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, due to the lack of established safety, it should be used only when the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. If breastfeeding, either stop infant feeding or discontinue the medication. Safety and efficacy have not been established for infants under 1 year of age, hence it should not be used in this population. This medication is for ocular use only, and care should be taken to avoid the tip of the container contacting the eye directly. To prevent contamination, it is preferable to avoid sharing this medication whenever possible. When storing, keep out of reach of children, avoid direct sunlight, and store in a cool, dry place.
