How to apply drops

Adult eye dose

For mild to moderate infections, apply 1 to 2 drops to the infected area every 4 hours. For severe infections, instill 2 drops every hour until symptoms improve, then gradually reduce and discontinue. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication is an aminoglycoside antibiotic and should not be used by patients allergic to specific antibiotics or bacitracin. Symptoms such as eyelid itching, swelling, redness, erythematous conjunctivitis, and transient stinging of the eyes may occur; if such symptoms develop, use should be discontinued immediately. Occasionally, discomfort or irritation may also occur, so caution is needed. To prevent the development of resistant strains during treatment, it is advisable to conduct susceptibility tests and use it only for the necessary minimum duration. A thorough interview and skin reaction test are preferable to check for past allergic reactions. Long-term repeated use may lead to excessive proliferation of non-susceptible bacteria, in which case use should be discontinued and appropriate measures taken. This medication should not be used in conjunction with tetracyclines. When used systemically with aminoglycoside medications, blood concentrations must be carefully monitored. During treatment, it is advisable to avoid wearing contact lenses to prevent the spread of infection. Vision may become temporarily blurred after application, so driving or operating machinery should be avoided until vision returns to normal. When this medication is used with anticoagulants, the anticoagulant effect may be increased, so blood coagulation status should be closely monitored, and the dosage of anticoagulants adjusted if necessary. There have been no reports of teratogenic effects in animal studies during pregnancy, but it should be used only when absolutely necessary. If breastfeeding, it may be harmful to the baby, so breastfeeding should be discontinued or it should be used after consulting a physician. In case of overdose, symptoms such as keratitis, erythema, increased tearing, and eyelid itching may occur, and blood concentrations should be managed with consideration for possible hemodialysis. It should not be injected directly into the eye. Additionally, resistance has been reported in some bacteria, so caution is needed during treatment.
