Treatment for spasms and increased motor function (gastrointestinal, urological, gynecological) and pre-treatment effect for gastrointestinal examinations.
This medication is used to relieve spasms and increased motor function occurring in various gastrointestinal-related diseases. It helps with upper gastrointestinal issues such as gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, esophageal spasms, pylorospasm, gastritis, enteritis, and abdominal pain, as well as with lower gastrointestinal problems like spastic constipation and functional diarrhea. Additionally, it is effective for biliary diseases such as cholecystitis, cholangitis, and cholelithiasis, as well as for biliary dyskinesia. It is also used for ureteral stones, cystitis, and urethral and bladder spasms caused by instrument insertion, as well as for dysmenorrhea and uterine spasms during childbirth. Furthermore, it is widely used as a pre-treatment for X-ray and endoscopic examinations of the gastrointestinal tract, reducing discomfort during the procedure.
As butylscopolamine bromide, 10 to 20 mg is administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intravenously. Adjust dosage appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication may cause serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis after injection, so patients should be monitored closely after administration. Care should be taken when using ampoules, as glass fragments may be present, and caution is especially necessary when administering to children or the elderly. This medication should not be administered to patients with certain diseases, such as glaucoma, prostate enlargement, gastrointestinal obstruction, myasthenia gravis, or cardiovascular diseases. Patients on anticoagulants may develop hematomas if this medication is administered intramuscularly, thus it should only be given subcutaneously or intravenously. Patients with bacterial diarrhea or those with heart disease or hyperthyroidism should exercise caution when using this medication. Due to its anticholinergic effect, this medication can cause side effects such as dry mouth, constipation, urinary problems, headaches, drowsiness, dizziness, palpitations, and sweating disorders. During administration, visual disturbances, drowsiness, or dizziness may occur, so driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided. Patients with glaucoma should consult an ophthalmologist immediately if they experience eye pain or vision impairment after using this medication. Caution should be exercised if used in combination with other anticholinergic drugs or certain antidepressants and antihistamines, as side effects may be intensified. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication carefully after consulting a doctor due to the lack of established safety. Elderly patients should be especially careful when using this medication as prostate enlargement is common in this demographic. In case of overdose, anticholinergic symptoms may manifest, and appropriate treatment such as the administration of parasympathomimetic agents may be necessary. When administering intravenously, inject slowly, and ensure there is no tissue damage when giving subcutaneously or intramuscularly. This medication should be stored in a container that blocks light at room temperature, and proper storage conditions should be observed.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
