Precautions

It is very important not to use this medication in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and in nursing mothers. Patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, perforation, or other problems should not use this medication, as it can stimulate gastrointestinal motility and worsen their condition. Patients with a specific tumor called pheochromocytoma should not be administered this medication, as it may raise blood pressure. Patients with an allergy to this medication or who cannot tolerate it should avoid its use. This medication should not be given to patients with epilepsy, manic episodes, or in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, as it may exacerbate their symptoms. Patients with malignant breast disease should avoid this medication, as it can increase prolactin secretion, leading to breast-related issues. Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly; especially children, as they may experience side effects more easily, requiring dosage adjustments. This medication can affect the endocrine system, leading to symptoms such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia, so if any unusual symptoms occur, use should be immediately discontinued. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and anxiety may rarely occur; if they develop, the medication should be stopped. Long-term use may cause involuntary movements around the mouth, which may persist even after discontinuation of the drug. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmias may occur, necessitating careful monitoring. A serious side effect called neuroleptic malignant syndrome may develop, presenting with high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness, requiring immediate cessation of medication and emergency treatment. Rashes or swelling may occur occasionally, so if any skin abnormalities appear, the use of medication should be stopped. Drowsiness, dizziness, and insomnia may occur while taking this medication, so driving or operating machinery is not recommended. When used in conjunction with other specific medications, interactions may arise that can cause unexpected side effects, so consultation with medical personnel is essential. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication as its safety for the fetus or newborn has not been established. Elderly patients may have decreased renal function, leading to prolonged drug presence in the body; therefore, adjustments in dosage and intervals should be made, and vigilance for side effects is necessary. This medication has an emetic effect that may obscure symptoms of vomiting from other diseases, so changes in symptoms should be closely monitored. Animal studies have reported decreased reproductive function and increased cancer risk, so caution is advised for long-term use.
