Improvement of stomach (ulcers, inflammation) and acidosis, and prevention of gout attacks through promotion of uric acid excretion
This medication helps alleviate symptoms in diseases such as ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, gastritis, and hyperacidity through its antacid effect. It is also effective in alleviating acidosis and regulating gastric acidity. Additionally, it promotes uric acid excretion to prevent gout attacks. Thus, it is used as an effective treatment for stomach-related diseases and prevention of gout.
Sodium bicarbonate: administer 0.5-1g orally, 3-5g per day. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication has a high sodium content and should not be used in patients who need to limit sodium intake, such as those with hypernatremia, edema, preeclampsia, bladder stones, or hypertension. It should be used cautiously in patients with severe gastrointestinal ulcers, impaired kidney function, heart or lung issues, and electrolyte imbalances like hypochloremic alkalosis. Use of this medication may result in metabolic abnormalities such as alkalosis or edema due to sodium retention, so patient status should be closely monitored, and dosage should be adjusted or interrupted if abnormalities are detected. Gastrointestinal side effects like abdominal distension or belching may occasionally occur, and rebound acid hypersecretion may occur rarely. Careful administration is especially important in patients with congestive heart failure, edema, sodium retention, and in those with very low or no urine output. For hyperuricemia patients, it should be taken before meals on an empty stomach, and it is advisable to use it with other antacids to reduce carbon dioxide stimulation. With long-term use, symptoms of alkalosis such as hematuria, vomiting, bleeding, and dehydration may arise, so careful observation is required. This medication increases the acidity of the gastrointestinal tract and body fluids, which may affect the absorption or excretion of other medications; therefore, it should be managed carefully when used with other drugs. Additionally, co-administration with large amounts of milk or calcium preparations may lead to milk-alkali syndrome, so if such symptoms occur, use should be discontinued and monitored immediately.
Edema
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may affect the absorption and excretion of concomitant medications due to the increase in the pH of gastrointestinal fluids and body fluids; therefore, it should be administered cautiously.
This medication may cause milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, hypernitrogenemia, alkalosis, etc.) when taken with large amounts of milk or calcium preparations. Consult with a doctor or pharmacist.
This medication can be sensitive to air and moisture; therefore, it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. The storage temperature should be maintained at room temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage helps maintain the potency of the medication.
