Treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers, alleviation of symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease and maintenance therapy, combination therapy with antibiotics for Helicobacter pylori infection-related gastrointestinal ulcers, treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
This medication is used for the treatment of gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers. It also helps relieve the symptoms of erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease and is utilized for long-term maintenance therapy for gastroesophageal reflux disease. It enhances treatment effects in patients with gastrointestinal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori when used in combination with antibiotics. It is also used for certain conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Overall, this medication is effective in alleviating symptoms and treating various gastrointestinal-related diseases.
For gastric ulcers and duodenal ulcers: Administer 10 mg of rabeprazole sodium orally once daily. Depending on symptoms, 20 mg can be administered orally once daily. For gastric ulcers, treatment can continue up to 8 weeks; for duodenal ulcers, up to 6 weeks. Erosive or ulcerative gastroesophageal reflux disease: Administer 10 mg or 20 mg once daily for 4 to 8 weeks. If not resolved after 8 weeks of treatment, an additional 8-week course may be considered.
This medication should not be used in patients with a history of allergies or hypersensitivity to certain ingredients or benzimidazoles. Patients allergic to penicillin-based or macrolide antibiotics should also be cautious when using this medication with antibiotics. Particularly, it should not be used in patients taking specific heart medications or those treated with atazanavir or rilpivirine, or in pregnant or lactating women. Patients with poor liver function or elderly patients, as well as those with a history of drug allergies, should use this medication cautiously. This medication can rarely cause various side effects such as skin rash, itching, blood abnormalities, liver function abnormalities, and cardiovascular and gastrointestinal issues, so if any unusual symptoms occur, consult a doctor immediately. Regular blood tests and liver function tests are important during prolonged use, especially if used for more than one year. This medication significantly inhibits gastric acid secretion, which may slightly increase the risk of bacterial infections in the stomach; if diarrhea persists, inform a doctor. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery due to the possibility of drowsiness. This medication may interact with other drugs, so inform healthcare providers of any concurrent medications, and dosage adjustments or monitoring may be necessary. It should not be taken during pregnancy or lactation, especially by pregnant women, as it may affect the fetus. Elderly patients are at higher risk of side effects due to decreased liver function, so they should discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider if symptoms arise. This medication must be swallowed whole and not chewed or crushed, and should be stored out of reach of children. In cases of overdose, there is no specific antidote, and treatment should be provided based on symptoms according to healthcare providers' instructions. Long-term use of this medication may increase the risk of gastric polyps, so the lowest effective dose and shortest duration of use are recommended. Additionally, if symptoms similar to erythema multiforme or systemic lupus erythematosus occur during use, the medication should be discontinued immediately and evaluated by a specialist.
