Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections (genital herpes, cold sores, etc.)
This medication is effectively used for herpes simplex virus infections, particularly for initial and recurrent genital herpes and cold sores. It helps alleviate these symptoms characterized by blister formation and suppresses the activity of the virus to aid in quick recovery. This helps prevent the worsening of symptoms and reduces patient discomfort. Therefore, it is used to improve symptoms related to herpes simplex.
Apply this medication to the affected area 5 times a day at intervals of about 4 hours. Treatment should continue for 5 days, and if the condition has not improved after 5 days, it may be used for an additional 5 days.
This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients or have a history of allergies. In addition, it is safer not to administer this medication to breastfeeding women and children. Patients with weakened immune systems such as AIDS patients or bone marrow transplant recipients should use it with more caution. When applying this medication to genital areas with ulcers, discomfort such as pressing pain may be felt. Temporary burning or stinging sensations, dermatitis, red spots, eczema, allergic reactions, itching, swelling, skin pigmentation changes, and blisters may occur as side effects. The skin may become red or itchy, and it may dry out and peel. Treatment should be started as soon as possible when symptoms first appear, and early treatment is recommended for recurrences. The prescribed dosage should be strictly followed and it must not be used by asymptomatic individuals. This medication is not intended to prevent infections in others. The possibility of resistance development is low but cannot be completely ruled out. Do not dilute or mix this medication with other drugs. Drug interactions with this medication are unknown, but changes in half-life with some medications have been reported when administered systemically. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks when using this medication, and it is best not to use this medication while breastfeeding. In children, the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently established, so its use should be avoided. This medication is for topical use only and should not be applied to the eyes or mucosal areas. Care should be taken as contact with mucous membranes such as the eyes, mouth, and vagina may cause irritation. When applying this medication, gloves or finger cots should be worn to prevent transfer to other areas or to other individuals.
