Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections (genital and oral herpes)
This medication is used to treat herpes simplex virus infections, particularly the blister symptoms caused by initial and recurrent genital herpes and cold sores.
Apply this medicine to the affected area (site of disease) about 5 times a day at intervals of approximately 4 hours. Treatment should continue for 5 days, and if the condition has not improved after 5 days of use, it may be used for an additional 5 days.
This medicine should not be used in certain patients. People who have had an allergy or hypersensitivity to this medicine or its ingredients, as well as those sensitive to chemicals, should not use this medicine. Additionally, it is safer not to use this medicine in nursing women and children. Particular caution should be taken when this medicine is used in patients with weakened immune systems, such as AIDS patients or those who have undergone a bone marrow transplant. Using this medicine may cause pain or discomfort when applied to areas with ulcers in the genital region. Additionally, temporary burning or stinging pain may occur on the skin, and contact dermatitis, red spots, eczema, or allergic reactions may appear. Sometimes, the applied area may become irritated or develop itching, swelling, changes in skin color or rashes like hives or blisters. Treatment should ideally begin as soon as symptoms first appear, and in the case of recurrence, it should be used immediately when initial symptoms or affected areas are observed. The specified usage method, dosage, and duration must be strictly adhered to, and this medicine should not be used when there are no symptoms. This medicine is not intended for infection prevention, and it should not be mixed with or diluted with other drugs. While the interactions of this medicine with other drugs are not clearly known, systemic use may affect the efficacy of some medications. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks of using this medicine, as there is insufficient safety data for pregnant women. Furthermore, it is advisable to avoid breastfeeding during the use of this medicine. Some side effects have been reported in animal tests. The safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been adequately validated for children, therefore it is safer not to use it. This medicine is a topical agent for application on the skin only and should not be used on mucous membranes such as the eyes, mouth, or vagina. If contact with mucous membranes occurs, irritation may develop. When applying the medication, it is advisable to wear gloves and to avoid infecting others. Those allergic or hypersensitive to the propylene glycol component contained in this medicine must consult a physician or pharmacist before use.
