Neomycin is used in the initial treatment of corticosteroid-responsive skin diseases that have become secondarily infected by bacteria that are sensitive to neomycin. This medicine is particularly effective in treating dermatitis and infected wounds. It suppresses bacterial infections that occur on the skin, improving inflammation and infection states. By using it in the early stages, it helps prevent worsening of symptoms and supports faster recovery. Therefore, neomycin is an effective choice for the treatment of skin diseases caused by infections.

How to apply

Adult use

Apply an appropriate amount to the affected area 1 to 2 times a day.

Precautions

This medicine should not be used in patients with certain skin infections. For example, symptoms may worsen in cases of bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections, or skin infections caused by animals. People allergic to this medicine or its components, or with a history of hypersensitivity reactions, should avoid using it. Patients with otitis externa who have a perforated eardrum should be cautious as healing may be delayed with the use of this medicine. It should not be used in patients with ulcers, severe burns, or frostbite as skin regeneration may be inhibited, delaying healing. Patients with perioral dermatitis, common acne, or rosacea are advised not to use this medicine as well. Those who have had hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics or bacitracin should use this medicine with caution. This medicine should not be applied to the eyes or the breast area with wounds, especially during breastfeeding, as there is a risk of the drug being transmitted to infants. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding mothers, should use this medicine carefully and avoid long-term or extensive use if possible. In children, the risk of side effects is higher due to a larger skin area relative to their weight and should be used under the supervision of a guardian. If any abnormal symptoms such as skin infections, itching, redness, swelling, or rash occur while using this medicine, use should be stopped immediately and a consultation with a specialist is recommended. Long-term use may lead to side effects such as skin atrophy, vasodilation, and pigmentation changes, so reducing the dosage gradually or switching to another medication may be necessary. Systemic steroid side effects may occur with extensive use or long-term usage, especially when using occlusive dressings. Avoid using around the eyes as it may lead to increased intraocular pressure or glaucoma. Usage around the eyes should be avoided. If there are any changes in vision during the use of this medicine, an ophthalmologist should be consulted immediately. It is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage and keep within the instructed use. If symptoms improve, it is advisable to discontinue use as soon as possible. As sensitization reactions may occur, do not use for prolonged periods. If signs of sensitization such as itching or rash appear, discontinue use immediately. If streptococcal infection is suspected, systemic antibiotic treatment may be necessary. Store in a place out of reach of children. This medicine is not for ophthalmic use. If it accidentally gets into the eyes, rinse immediately with clean water and seek ophthalmic treatment if necessary. Do not use for purposes other than treatment, such as after cosmetics application or shaving, and use occlusive dressings only according to a doctor’s instructions. Patients with psoriasis should be careful as the skin condition may worsen during treatment or after discontinuation if this medicine is used in large amounts over a long period.
