Precautions

This medicine should not be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as to nursing mothers. It may pose risks to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or mechanical obstruction, as it can stimulate gastrointestinal motility. This drug should not be given to patients with specific tumors like pheochromocytoma, as it may increase blood pressure. Patients with known allergic reactions to this drug or intolerances should not use it. It should not be administered to patients with liver disease or those in specific stages of bipolar disorder as it may exacerbate symptoms. Patients with breast-related conditions should use this medication with caution, as it can increase prolactin secretion, potentially leading to breast formation disorders. This drug contains lactose, so those with lactose intolerance or related metabolic disorders should refrain from taking it. Care should be taken when administering this medication to hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly, especially in avoiding overdose in children. This drug may cause side effects such as amenorrhea, galactorrhea, and gynecomastia due to hormonal secretion abnormalities, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Rarely, neurological side effects like tremors, tongue twisting, and agitation may occur, and if these symptoms arise, administration should be discontinued. Long-term use may cause involuntary movements around the mouth, which may continue even after stopping the drug. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmias may occur, so caution is advised. Severe side effects such as neuroleptic malignant syndrome have been reported, leading to high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness; if these symptoms occur, stop using the medication immediately and seek emergency treatment. Rarely, rash or swelling may occur, and in such cases, use of the drug should also be stopped. It is advisable to avoid activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, while taking this medication. There may be interactions when taken with other drugs, especially anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, and other neuroleptics; caution is particularly needed in these combinations. Safety has not been established in pregnant or nursing women regarding the fetus and newborn, hence it should not be administered. In the elderly, renal function decline may increase drug concentrations, so dosage and intervals should be adjusted with careful observation for side effects. This drug may suppress vomiting symptoms; thus, it should be administered only after assessing whether vomiting is due to another serious condition. Long-term high-dose use has been reported to cause reproductive and hormonal abnormalities, so regular check-ups are required during prolonged use.
