Precautions

This medication should not be used by women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, and by women who are breastfeeding. It should not be administered to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation, as stimulating gastrointestinal motility can be harmful. In patients with specific tumors such as pheochromocytoma, this medication should be avoided as it may increase blood pressure. Do not administer if there is an allergic reaction to this drug or if it is intolerable. Patients with liver diseases or those in manic phases of bipolar disorder should not use this drug. In patients with malignant mammary gland diseases that involve the breast, this medication could increase prolactin secretion, leading to breast issues, so it should not be given. Caution is required for hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly, particularly as symptoms may manifest extrapyramidal in children, so overdose should be avoided. This medication may cause side effects such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia due to hormone secretion abnormalities, and if symptoms appear, usage should be stopped immediately. Occasionally, neurological side effects such as tremors, tongue twisting, and restlessness may occur, so treatment should be halted if such symptoms arise. Prolonged use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth, which may persist even after discontinuation of the drug. Gastrointestinal side effects may include dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. This drug may cause heart-related issues such as hypertension or arrhythmia, so caution is warranted. A serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, and if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness arise, stop the drug immediately and seek emergency treatment. Rarely, skin rashes or swelling may occur, so treatment should be stopped if such symptoms arise. During the use of this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, or insomnia may appear, and erectile dysfunction may occur rarely. Long-term use may lead to reproductive-related side effects due to hormonal changes, but most can be recovered. This medication may impair attention during driving or operating machinery, so such activities should be avoided while using it. Arrhythmias may rarely occur, so patients with heart disease should be especially cautious. Interactions with other medications may occur, so consult a doctor or pharmacist and it is safest not to consume alcohol while taking this medication. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use this drug, and elderly patients should be cautious regarding dosage and side effects due to potential renal function decline that may prolong the drug's presence in the body. This drug has an antiemetic effect and may mask or worsen vomiting symptoms due to other causes, so careful use is advised. Animal studies have reported reproductive function impairment and the potential for tumor incidence, so caution is required for long-term use.
