Precautions

This medication should be used cautiously in patients with impaired liver function as citrate toxicity can occur easily in these patients. Moreover, caution is needed for patients who have undergone anesthesia in a state of hypothermia, as the risk of citrate toxicity is also increased in this case. When using this medication, it can affect heart function, especially if a large quantity is administered in a short time, potentially leading to decreased heart function, abnormal electrocardiograms, and low blood pressure. It may also impact muscle and skeletal systems, causing cramps or muscle stiffness, so care must be taken. Sensory disturbances may occur, and respiratory symptoms such as chest discomfort or difficulty breathing may also be experienced. Gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea or vomiting can occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Additionally, hematuria, chills, shivering, fever, dizziness, and metabolic alkalosis may manifest, while in children, stool color may change to olive green or bilirubin may mix with urine. This medication can lower serum calcium levels, which may lead to citrate toxicity symptoms, so calcium supplements should be administered if necessary. Before use, ensure that the anticoagulant is clean, and mix the blood and anticoagulant well several times. Conduct a cross-match test before transfusion, and use the blood only after it has been mixed evenly. During transfusion, do not add any other medications, and carefully check the blood type and condition. Use a transfusion set with a filter, and take care not to damage the blood storage container. Avoid warming the blood before transfusion. This medication should be stored at a temperature between 1 and 6 degrees Celsius, with temperature variations maintained within 2 degrees. During storage, ensure that the temperature does not exceed 40 degrees, and if the aluminum foil packaging is opened, it should be torn just before use to prevent moisture loss. If resealed after opening, use within 20 days for safety.
