This medication is used for the local treatment of vaginitis caused by candidiasis, trichomoniasis, as well as nonspecific and mixed infections. It is also used for preoperative preparation in gynecology and as a disinfecting vaginal wash, local cleansing, and deodorizing solution. Thanks to its efficacy, it is effective for the treatment and prevention of infections related to various vaginitis.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Dilute 30mL of 10% Povidone Iodine (with 1% active iodine) in approximately 1L of warm water and cleanse vaginally once or twice a day. For disinfecting vaginal washing, local cleansing, and deodorizing purposes, cleanse 1-2 times a week.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, those with allergies to this medication or its components, those with thyroid dysfunction, individuals with poor kidney function, and infants under 6 months should avoid use. Furthermore, patients with severe symptoms or a history of thyroid disorders or previous kidney problems should be especially cautious when using this medication. Rarely, allergic reactions may occur when using this medication, including pain, itching, irritation, and rash on the skin. If these symptoms worsen, use should be discontinued. Serious side effects

Hives, swelling, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, paleness (severe allergic reaction), respiratory distress (including pulmonary edema), renal failure, edema accompanied by hypertension, anuria, severe skin ulcer, mucosal damage, laryngeal edema, goiter, thyroid dysfunction, severe allergic symptoms (anaphylaxis), sudden onset of itching and swelling, chest burning, pallor, cold extremities, cold sweat, severe symptoms, bleeding.

Mild side effects

Pain, itching, irritation, rash, redness, dermatitis, burning sensation, skin ulcer, contact dermatitis, skin discoloration, impaired wound healing, metallic taste, increased salivation, burning sensation and pain in the throat and mouth, eye irritation, skin reactions, abdominal pain, diarrhea, increased serum iodine-binding proteins, iodine toxicity, iodine-induced changes in thyroid function, redness, swelling, pain.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.

Interactions

Drug interactions

Do not use this medication with hydrogen peroxide. Consult your doctor or pharmacist when using with lithium preparations, chlorhexidine, silver sulfadiazine, alkaline compounds, mercury-containing products, and enzymatic wound healing agents.
