Treatment of autoimmune diseases (arthritis, lupus, etc.) and skin conditions; treatment and prevention of malaria
This medication is used to treat autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus, and photosensitive skin conditions. It is also effective for the treatment and prevention of malaria infections. Patients should understand that this medication helps to regulate excessive immune responses and suppress malaria parasites. It contributes to reducing systemic inflammation and infection risk, thus aiding in health recovery.
Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus, photosensitive skin diseases The initial dose is 200~400mg daily. If administering 400mg, divide the dose. Once an effect is achieved, reduce the dose to 200mg daily; if the effect is insufficient, increase the dose to 400mg daily. The maintenance dose should be set at the minimum effective dose and must not exceed 6.5mg/kg/day. For rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus, discontinue treatment if there is no improvement in symptoms after 6 months of use. When used for photosensitive diseases, administer only during periods of substantial exposure. Treatment of malaria For treatment of acute disease, administer 800mg initially, followed by 400mg 3 more times at 6∼8-hour intervals, for a total of 2g over 2 days. For treatment of acute disease caused by Plasmodium falciparum or Plasmodium vivax (P.falciparum, P.vivax), a single dose of 800mg may be administered. Prevention of malaria Administer 6mg/kg once weekly (usually 400mg once weekly), starting 2 weeks before exposure.
Rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus, photosensitive skin diseases The usual average daily dose is 200∼400mg. The maintenance dose should be set at the minimum effective dose and must not exceed 6.5mg/kg/day or the adult dose, regardless of body weight. Treatment of malaria Administer 10mg/kg of chloroquine initially, followed by 5mg/kg 3 more times at 6-8-hour intervals, for a total of 25mg/kg over 2 days. However, the adult dose must not be exceeded. Prevention of malaria Administer 6mg/kg once weekly, starting 2 weeks before exposure. Therefore, it is preferable not to administer this medicine to children weighing less than 30∼40kg, as even 1 tablet (200mg) would exceed the appropriate dose.
