Precautions

This medication should not be administered to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, nor to nursing women. Gastrointestinal motility stimulation may be harmful to patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or perforation, so use should be avoided in these cases. Patients with specific tumors, such as pheochromocytoma, should not take this medication as it may induce hypertension. This medication should not be given to patients with allergy reactions or those who cannot tolerate it. Use should also be avoided in patients with liver disease or those in a manic phase of bipolar disorder. Patients with breast-related conditions should be cautious as this medication may increase prolactin secretion and cause breast abnormalities. Patients with hypertension, children, and the elderly should use this medication cautiously, especially children as extramural symptoms may occur, hence overdose should be avoided. While taking this medication, symptoms of endocrine abnormalities such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Rarely, neurological symptoms such as tremors, abnormal tongue movements, and anxiety may appear, and if these symptoms occur, use should be stopped immediately. With long-term use, delayed symptoms such as involuntary movements around the mouth may appear, which can persist even after stopping the medication. Gastrointestinal side effects such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may occur. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmias may occur, so caution is needed. A serious side effect known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur infrequently, and if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered consciousness appear, drug administration should be stopped immediately and emergency treatment should be sought. If rashes or swelling occur while taking this medication, use should be stopped; occasionally, symptoms such as flushing, malaise, insomnia, drowsiness, dizziness, imbalance, and erectile dysfunction may occur. This medication affects the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, causing temporary changes in reproductive function, so caution is needed with long-term use. Patients should be thoroughly informed about the potential for increased prolactin secretion and milk leakage before administration. It is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery that requires concentration while taking this medication. Due to the risk of cardiac arrhythmia, special caution is required when taking this medication with drugs that prolong the QT interval. This medication may interact with anticholinergics, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, etc., so observation and caution are necessary during concurrent use. Unexpected side effects may occur when used with psychiatric medications, and it should not be taken with alcohol. The safety of use during pregnancy has not been established and may be harmful to the fetus, so it should not be used by pregnant women or those who may become pregnant. Nursing women should also refrain from taking this medication. Elderly individuals may experience prolonged retention of the drug in the body due to decreased renal function, so dosage adjustment and monitoring for side effects should be undertaken with caution. This medication may mask symptoms of other diseases due to its antiemetic effect, so the patient's condition should be carefully monitored during administration. Animal experiments have reported possible reproductive function decline and tumor formation, so caution is needed with long-term use.
