Precautions

This medication should not be used in women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, or in nursing mothers. Patients with gastrointestinal bleeding, mechanical obstruction, or gastrointestinal perforation should not be administered this medication as it may exacerbate their condition by stimulating gastrointestinal motility. Patients with pheochromocytoma, which may cause hypertension due to a tumor, should not use this medication as it may pose risks. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or those who cannot tolerate it should avoid taking it. It is not safe for patients with epilepsy, those in the manic phase of bipolar disorder, or those experiencing manic episodes to use this drug. Patients with malignant diseases of the breast should exercise caution as this medication may increase prolactin secretion, leading to breast formation disorders. This medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic issues should avoid taking it. Patients with hypertension should closely monitor blood pressure changes when using this drug, and caution should be exercised to avoid overdosing in children as extrapyramidal symptoms may occur. Elderly patients should be cautious as renal function may be decreased, allowing the drug to remain in the body for an extended period, thus requiring adjustments in dose and dosing interval. This medication may cause amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia due to hormonal secretion abnormalities, so it should be promptly discontinued if such symptoms arise. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors, tongue twisting, and restlessness may rarely occur, and if such symptoms appear, the medication should be stopped. Long-term use may result in persistent involuntary movements around the mouth, so caution is advised. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation may appear, so symptoms should be monitored. Cardiovascular adverse reactions, such as hypertension or arrhythmia, may occur, so the heart condition should be carefully monitored. During the use of this medication, there is a risk of neuroleptic malignant syndrome, which is a serious side effect. If there are symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness, immediate treatment should be sought. Rash or swelling may rarely occur, so the medication should be discontinued at signs of any skin reactions. During the use of this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, insomnia, and lethargy may appear; therefore, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating machinery. This medication may interact with other drugs, particularly anticholinergics, analgesics, digitalis preparations, other benzamide drugs, psychiatric medications, and alcohol, so caution is warranted. When used in conjunction with drugs that pose a risk of cardiac arrhythmia, the patient's heart condition must be closely monitored and should not be used with drugs causing electrolyte disturbances. Women who are pregnant or nursing should avoid using this medication for the safety of the fetus and newborn. In elderly patients, due to reduced kidney function, the drug may remain in the body for an extended period, thus it should be carefully administered considering the possibility of adverse reactions. This medication has an effect of suppressing vomiting symptoms, which may obscure or worsen vomiting caused by other reasons, so caution is advised. Animal studies have reported decreases in reproductive function and potential tumorigenesis, necessitating caution with long-term use.
