Prevention and treatment of thrombosis and embolism, inhibition of blood coagulation
This medication is used for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. It is particularly effective for the prevention and treatment of thrombosis that may occur after surgery and thromboembolic atrial fibrillation. It also helps diagnose and treat acute and chronic coagulopathies, and prevents blood coagulation during vascular and cardiac surgeries. Additionally, it is used for the prevention of cerebral thrombosis due to cerebral hemorrhage, and aids in preventing blood coagulation during transfusions, extracorporeal circulation, and dialysis. Moreover, it is effective for the treatment of coronary artery occlusion and peripheral vascular embolism accompanying acute myocardial infarction. This medication is used to prevent and treat various blood coagulation-related disorders.
Typically administered intravenously or added to the blood in extracorporeal circulation. 1. Extracorporeal circulation 1) Artificial kidney (1) Systemic heparinization: Administer 1,000 to 5,000 IU of sodium heparin before starting dialysis, and after starting dialysis, 500 to 1,500 IU should be continuously administered per hour, or intermittently administered at 500 to 1,500 IU every hour. (2) Local heparinization
This medication is very potent and should only be used under strict supervision of a physician. Use with caution in patients with diseases that have a high risk of bleeding, as bleeding may occur in nearly all areas of the body after administration. Care should be taken as severe cases may result in fatal hemorrhage. It contains a component called benzyl alcohol, which can be very dangerous for premature infants or newborns. Patients who have had allergic reactions to this medication or its components should not use it, and those with inappropriate blood coagulation test results should also refrain from administration. It is contraindicated in patients with significant bleeding, those with a tendency to bleed, severe liver or kidney diseases, and those who have recently undergone neurosurgery or eye surgery. Blood coagulation status should be frequently monitored during the administration of this medication to manage the risk of bleeding, and administration should be immediately stopped if bleeding symptoms appear. Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia may occur with a sharp decrease in platelet count, thus platelet counts should be periodically checked. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, consulting a healthcare provider is essential. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use it cautiously considering the potential effects on the fetus or newborn. In cases of overdose, the risk of bleeding increases, so immediate treatment with the antidote protamine sulfate is required, and care must be taken for side effects even when using the antidote. Intramuscular injections are advisable to avoid due to the risk of hematomas, and it should not be mixed with antihistamines. Always follow the healthcare provider's instructions when using this medication, and report any unusual symptoms immediately.
