The glucose tolerance test is used to diagnose conditions related to diabetes. This test evaluates the ability to control blood sugar levels, confirming the presence of diabetes and any abnormalities in blood sugar regulation. Therefore, it plays a very important role in the diagnosis and management of diabetes.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

Adults (excluding pregnant women): administer 75g of glucose. Pregnant women: administer 100g of glucose.

Children's dosage

For children: administer 1.75g of glucose per kg of body weight, not to exceed 75g of glucose.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with specific absorption disorders related to glucose. It may be harmful to patients who cannot properly absorb glucose and galactose. Patients with diabetes insipidus should be particularly cautious when using this medication. Nausea or vomiting, and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur after taking this medication. Additionally, mental discomfort such as headaches may occasionally be experienced. This medication must be taken orally according to a doctor's instructions. It is advisable to stop taking all medications, including this one, the day before the test, and to avoid overeating, excessive drinking, and alcohol. For 12 hours before the test, nothing should be consumed, and fasting should be maintained on the morning of the test day. During the test, a comfortable position should be maintained and vigorous exercise should be avoided. It is recommended not to smoke before and during the test. Test results can vary due to various factors, so careful observation of the patient's condition is important. This medication contains sodium benzoate, which may cause slight irritation to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Laxatives may interfere with the intestinal absorption of this medication, so it is advisable not to take them together. Elderly patients may have reduced bodily functions, so caution should be exercised and dosage reduced if necessary.
