Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. It must not be used by individuals with an allergy to this medicine or its constituents. Patients with thyroid dysfunction, particularly those with nodular goiter or Hashimoto's thyroiditis, should not use this medication. Patients with impaired kidney function should also avoid this medication, as well as new-borns and infants under 6 months. This medicine should not be used when there is herpetic dermatitis or before and after radioactive iodine therapy. Severe patients, such as burn patients or those with a history of thyroid disease and kidney disease, must use this medication with caution. This medication can rarely cause allergic reactions, and if symptoms such as difficulty in breathing or hives appear, usage should be stopped immediately. Skin reactions such as pain, itching, irritation, and rashes may occur, and in severe cases, skin ulcers or contact dermatitis can develop. Especially with prolonged use, healing of wounds may be delayed, requiring careful monitoring. Using large amounts can lead to electrolyte imbalances or metabolic acidosis issues and may also worsen kidney function. Furthermore, long-term use can alter thyroid function, necessitating regular testing. Excessive application can lead to systemic absorption of iodine, causing metallic taste, increased salivation, throat and mouth pain, eye irritation, skin reactions, digestive disorders, and breathing difficulties. Overuse may lead to iodine toxicity, so caution is necessary. If this medication has been used immediately before delivery, the newborn's eyes and skin should be thoroughly washed, and if symptoms do not improve, surgical treatment should be considered. When applying to patients with extensive burns, proper hydration and careful monitoring of kidney function and metabolic status is essential. This medication can affect thyroid diagnostic tests, requiring a separation period between testing and administration, as thyroid function may change, necessitating caution. Patients undergoing lithium therapy are advised not to use this medication regularly, and using it together with other disinfectants may diminish its effectiveness. It should not be used in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should avoid prolonged or extensive use, as it may affect the thyroid function of the fetus or newborn; caution is therefore required. The iodine component of this medication may influence thyroid function test results. In case of overdose, symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and coma may occur, requiring prompt treatment. For detoxification, food containing starch and protein should be consumed, and if necessary, gastric lavage or intravenous treatment should be administered. Care should be taken to avoid contact with the eyes; if it does enter, it should be rinsed immediately with clean water. Do not mix with other medications, and the affected area should be thoroughly cleaned before application. If it stains clothing, it’s best to wash it off immediately; it is effective to use after thoroughly removing soap. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight, and care should be taken to avoid storing it in metal containers as corrosion may occur. Finally, use in the vaginal area may elevate serum iodine levels, which should also be considered.
