Weight loss adjunctive therapy for patients with obesity (high body mass index and risk factors)
This medication is used for obese patients who find it difficult to lose weight through proper dietary and exercise regimens. It is especially useful for patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more with risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, or hyperlipidemia. It is used as a short-term adjunctive therapy for exogenous obesity treatment based on calorie restriction and should be taken alone without using other appetite suppressants. This medication helps with weight loss and reduces obesity-related risks, thus being effective for obesity management.
As Phendimetrazine Tartrate, take 35 mg orally 2 to 3 times a day, 1 hour before meals. The dosage should use the minimum effective dose but can be adjusted individually to achieve a proper response. For some patients, 17.5 mg once daily may be appropriate. The dosage should not exceed 70 mg per dose, taken more than 3 times a day. This medication is administered for a short period (within 4 weeks).
This medication should be used alone, as combining it with other appetite suppressants can lead to serious heart problems. It is safe to use this medication for only a short duration for obesity treatment, and it is not recommended to take it with other weight loss medications. Long-term use of this medication may significantly increase the risk of severe pulmonary disease known as pulmonary hypertension, and if symptoms like difficulty breathing or chest pain occur, it should be discontinued immediately, and medical examination should be sought. It may also be associated with heart valve diseases, so it is important to thoroughly evaluate heart conditions before taking this medication. This medication should not be used by those with certain heart conditions, hypertension, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, anxiety disorders, or a history of substance abuse. Additionally, it should not be administered to children under 16 years of age or to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. Patients with slight hypertension, breastfeeding women, or those with diabetes should use this medication with special caution. This medication may cause increased heart rate or blood pressure, and various side effects may occur, including anxiety, dizziness, insomnia, headache, indigestion, changes in sexual function, frequent urination, urinary retention, and erectile dysfunction. Tolerance to the medication may develop quickly, and if its effectiveness decreases, the dose should not be increased but discontinued instead. Due to its influence on the central nervous system, care should be taken when driving or operating hazardous machinery. Diabetic patients may need to adjust their insulin dosage when taking this medication. In cases of overdose, serious symptoms such as anxiety, coma, seizures, changes in blood pressure, and vomiting may occur, and immediate medical attention is required. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and caution should be exercised as it falls under controlled substances with the potential for abuse. Sudden discontinuation after long-term high-dose use may result in severe fatigue and depression, so dosage should be gradually reduced. This medication may cause psychological dependence, and in severe cases, symptoms similar to psychosis may appear, so any changes in mental status should be monitored closely during use. Safety during pregnancy has not been established, and it may be harmful to the fetus, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take it.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air and moisture, so it should be stored in a tightly sealed container. Additionally, it is best to keep the medication at room temperature, not too hot or cold.
