This medication is used for disinfecting hands and skin. It is especially effective when health and hygiene workers disinfect their hands or clean wounds on the skin. It is also used to disinfect medical instruments, furniture, and devices, helping to maintain hygiene. However, it is not used for disinfecting the hands of the surgeon or the skin at the surgical site during surgery. It serves various hygiene purposes, aiding in infection prevention.
Dilute chlorhexidine gluconate to the following concentrations according to intended use: 1) Disinfection of hands and skin (excluding disinfection of the surgeon’s hands and the skin at the surgical site): 0.1 to 0.5% solution 2) Disinfection of medical instruments: 0.1 to 0.5% solution or 0.5% ethanol solution 3) Disinfection of furniture, equipment, and wound areas on the skin: 0.05% solution
This drug is a disinfectant made from chlorhexidine. This drug should not be used by individuals who have had an allergic reaction to chlorhexidine. Particularly, it should not be used directly on nerve tissues such as the brain, spinal cord, or ears as it may cause hearing loss or nerve damage. Additionally, it should not be used on mucosal areas such as the vagina, bladder, or mouth as it may cause severe allergic reactions or shock. Care should be taken to ensure it does not enter the eyes, as it can cause serious damage. Individuals who have allergies to other medications or have allergic conditions such as asthma should exercise greater caution when using this drug. It is also safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid using this drug. This drug should only be used externally; it must not be ingested or injected. If accidentally swallowed or injected, seek immediate medical attention for appropriate treatment. If symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, difficulty breathing, or skin redness occur during use, stop using it immediately and notify medical personnel. This drug should not be used on extensive wounds or burn areas, especially in newborns or premature infants where the risk of side effects is higher. When using, care should be taken as this drug can adhere to medical devices and textiles, reducing its efficacy. Additionally, this drug should be dried when used with alcohol, and caution is advised near electric surgical equipment due to fire risks. When storing, appropriate temperature and pH conditions should be maintained, and any diluted solution should be used as quickly as possible, disposing of any leftovers safely.
