Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients at risk for glaucoma or angle-closure glaucoma. Those with allergies to the components contained in this medication should also avoid administration. Use cautiously in children or patients sensitive to this medication, as there is a risk of systemic toxicity. During use, side effects such as increased intraocular pressure, mental changes, behavioral disorders, heart and respiratory issues, skin rashes, and abdominal distention may occur. Temporary side effects may include eye pain, dry mouth, blurred vision, glare, rapid heartbeat, and allergic reactions. Long-term use may cause irritation, congestion, swelling, or conjunctivitis around the eyes. Systemically, there may be dry skin, arrhythmias, reduced sweating, urinary issues, constipation, dizziness, and vomiting, with severe central nervous system disturbances particularly in children. This medication can increase intraocular pressure and may trigger angle-closure glaucoma, thus caution is necessary in patients at risk for glaucoma. Psychotic symptoms and behavioral disorders have been reported in children, so extra care is required. This medication contains components that can irritate the eyes and discolor soft contact lenses, so lenses should be removed before use and replaced at least 15 minutes after administration. Intraocular pressure and the condition of the eye's anterior segment should be checked before administration. To reduce systemic absorption, it's advised to press the tear duct area for more than 1 minute after administration. This medication may cause drowsiness or blurred vision and increased sensitivity to light, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. The safety in patients with impaired liver or kidney function is unclear, hence caution is advised. The effects may be enhanced when used in conjunction with other anticholinergic medications, so consultation with a doctor is required. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication as its safety has not been established, and the necessity of treatment should be carefully considered. For children, use the product with the lowest concentration possible, and avoid using concentrations higher than 0.5% in infants, as excessive use may lead to systemic toxicity. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as dry skin, flushing, blurred vision, rapid heartbeat, convulsions, and hallucinations may occur, and it is important to rinse the eyes with lukewarm water immediately and induce vomiting and perform gastric lavage if necessary. It should only be used as eye drops, taking care that the tip of the container does not come into direct contact with the eye to prevent contamination. It is advisable to block the tear duct or gently close the eyelid after administration to reduce systemic absorption, and when using with other eye drops, allow a minimum interval of 5 minutes, and it is safest to use ointments last. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, away from direct sunlight, in a cool place, and it is important not to transfer it to another container to maintain quality.
