Precautions

This medication should ideally not be used in patients undergoing dialysis because long-term use may lead to aluminum accumulation in the body, causing problems in the brain and bones. Additionally, this medication should not be administered to children under 15 years of age. Patients with low phosphate levels or heart dysfunction, those who experience frequent diarrhea, patients with high serum magnesium levels, and those with poor kidney function should use this medication cautiously. Patients with renal impairment are particularly at risk for aluminum-related side effects with long-term use and should regularly have blood tests done to check levels of aluminum, phosphorus, calcium, etc. Long-term use of this medication in high doses may lead to increased serum magnesium levels or decreased phosphate levels, thus careful monitoring is necessary. If abnormal symptoms appear, it may be necessary to reduce the dose or temporarily discontinue the medication. Gastrointestinal side effects may include decreased appetite, dry mouth, and symptoms such as diarrhea or constipation, so these symptoms should also be monitored closely. This medication may interfere with the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics, so it is advisable not to use them together. Also, since this medication can alter the pH of the intestinal environment, affecting the absorption or excretion of other drugs, it should be used cautiously in the presence of concomitant medications. Excessive intake with milk or calcium supplements may lead to symptoms like hypercalcemia or alkalosis, so if such symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and a doctor should be consulted.
