Treatment of myasthenia gravis
Myasthenia gravis is a disorder characterized by weakness and easy fatigue in the muscles due to problems with the transmission of signals between nerves and muscles. This medication helps improve muscle function and alleviate symptoms in patients with myasthenia gravis.
Adults: Administer pyridostigmine bromide orally at a daily dose of 60-180㎎ in 3 divided doses. Adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This medicine should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients with an allergy to this drug or similar drugs, those with blockages or spasms in the digestive tract or urinary tract, patients with severe asthma or bronchitis, patients with eye inflammation, those with hyperthyroidism, patients with muscle tone disorders, Parkinson's disease patients, patients with heart or blood circulation issues, patients using certain muscle relaxants, and patients with vagus nerve tension syndrome should not use this drug. Additionally, patients with poor kidney function, history of peptic ulcers, gastrointestinal surgery, diabetes, liver dysfunction, weak heart function, those who have recently experienced a myocardial infarction, patients with arrhythmias or bradycardia, hypotension, coronary artery obstruction, and epilepsy should use this drug with caution. Routine liver function tests are important for those with liver dysfunction. Excessive intake of this drug may cause breathing problems, muscle spasms, abdominal pain, diarrhea, excessive sweating, and constriction of the pupils. If these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical treatment. This drug may also cause various side effects such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, increased salivation, tearing, sweating, and increased bronchial secretion, so consult a doctor if symptoms are severe. Especially in patients with myasthenia gravis, symptoms may worsen rapidly, so the dosage should be adjusted according to a specialist's instructions. This drug is primarily excreted through the kidneys, so patients with reduced kidney function should start with a lower dose and adjust based on their condition. Be cautious of interactions when using this drug in conjunction with other medications. Using certain muscle relaxants or anticholinergics together may exacerbate side effects, so co-administration should be avoided or done with extreme caution. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should only use this medication when absolutely necessary, as safety has not been fully established. If breastfeeding, it is advisable to discontinue breastfeeding when taking this medication. Elderly patients may have reduced kidney function, which can increase drug concentration, so they should start with a lower dose and be closely monitored.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a cool, dry place, and it is important to keep it in a tightly sealed container to prevent air exposure.
