Improvement of stomach (ulcer, inflammation) symptoms and antacid effect
This medication alleviates symptoms associated with gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and excessive gastric acid by neutralizing gastric acid through its antacid effect. It also aids in calcium supplementation, helping to maintain calcium balance in the body. Therefore, this medication is effective in improving gastrointestinal issues and calcium deficiency.
For gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and excess gastric acid: Calcium carbonate is usually taken orally in divided doses of 1-5 grams per day, 3-4 times a day. For calcium supplementation: 1.5-3 grams per day in divided doses of 1-2 times per day. Adjust according to age and symptoms.
This medication should not be taken in excess of 7.5 grams per day. Patients with severe hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria, hyperparathyroidism or hypothyroidism, severe renal failure, and achlorhydria should not take this medication. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so patients with a genetic intolerance to lactose should avoid it. Patients with impaired kidney function or with heart and lung issues, as well as those with constipation or taking other medications, should use this medication with caution. Taking this medication may cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, constipation, or diarrhea, and rarely may lead to excessive gastric acid secretion. Overconsumption can lead to high calcium levels in the blood or metabolic alkalosis, and long-term excessive use may increase the risk of kidney stones or urinary stones. Furthermore, allergic reactions such as itching may occur due to this medication. The prescribed usage and dosage must be strictly followed, and it should be administered to children under the supervision of a guardian. If symptoms do not improve after taking the medication for about two weeks, discontinue use and consult a doctor or pharmacist. This medication should not be taken concurrently with certain antibiotics as it may interfere with drug absorption. Moreover, this medication can alter the gastrointestinal environment and affect the absorption or excretion of other medications, so it should be used with caution. Drinking large amounts of milk while taking this medication may lead to symptoms of hypercalcemia, so patients should closely monitor their condition and discontinue use if abnormalities occur. Caution is advised when taken with vitamin D or certain diuretics as hypercalcemia can occur easily.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should not be taken with tetracycline antibiotics. Additionally, consult a doctor or pharmacist when taking vitamin D, thiazide diuretics, or other medications.
Taking this medication with large amounts of milk may result in milk-alkali syndrome (hypercalcemia, hypernitrogenemia, alkalosis, etc.), so caution is advised.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air exposure, at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will maintain the effectiveness of the medication and prevent deterioration.
