Sterilization and disinfection effect on the surgical site and the surgeon's hands and arms.
This medication is used to clean and sterilize the hands and arms of individuals undergoing surgery, as well as the surgical area, to prevent infections.
For the sterilization and disinfection of the surgeon's hands and arms, take 5mL of this medication, rub well for about 5 minutes to produce sufficient foam, and rinse thoroughly with running water. For the sterilization and disinfection of the surgical area, apply the medication directly or use an adequate amount to rub well and produce sufficient foam, then wipe with sterile gauze.
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients, those with thyroid function abnormalities, those with impaired kidney function, neonates and infants under 6 months of age, patients with herpetic dermatitis, and patients undergoing radioactive iodine therapy. It should also be used with caution in severely ill patients or those with a history of thyroid disease or kidney failure. While using this medication, allergic reactions may rarely occur. If symptoms such as difficulty breathing, skin rash, or itching develop, use should be discontinued immediately. Skin pain, irritation, rash, dermatitis, or discoloration may occur, and use should be stopped if symptoms are severe. Particularly when used in large amounts for burn treatment, there is a risk of electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, and kidney failure, so caution is necessary. Long-term use of this medication may impact thyroid function, so thyroid hormone levels should be monitored. Excessive use may result in iodine toxicity, with symptoms including a metallic taste, irritation of the mouth and throat, and severe symptoms like difficulty breathing. If used just before childbirth, it is recommended to wash the newborn's eyes and skin quickly, and if symptoms do not improve, surgical intervention should be considered. When used on burn patients, adequate hydration, kidney function, and metabolic status should be closely monitored, and there should be a certain period between thyroid diagnostic tests and using this medication. Additionally, this medication contains iodine, so caution should be exercised concerning thyroid function abnormalities with excessive dosage or long-term use. In the presence of infection, it is advisable to first wash with saline before using this medication, and rare occurrences of anaphylactic shock may require immediate medical attention if severe allergic symptoms appear after use. This medication may interact with certain drugs, so patients undergoing lithium treatment should avoid regular use, and using it together with some disinfectants or enzyme therapies may diminish or nullify its effects. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication for long-term or extensive periods, as it may affect the thyroid function of the fetus or newborn, and thyroid function testing in newborns is recommended. The iodine content of this medication may affect thyroid function test results, so it should be taken into account during testing. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, dizziness, and vascular collapse may occur, and gastric lavage or detoxification treatment may be necessary. Take care to avoid contact with the eyes during use, do not mix it with other formulations, and ensure that the affected area is cleaned and disinfected prior to use. If it spills on clothing, immediate washing is advisable, and soaps may weaken the disinfecting action of this medication, so it must be thoroughly rinsed off. This medication should be stored away from direct sunlight, and caution should be taken with metal containers as corrosion may occur. Lastly, caution is required because vaginal use may raise serum iodine levels.
