View approved original text

Iron deficiency anemia is a condition where there is insufficient iron in the body to produce an adequate number of red blood cells. This condition can cause symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, and pallor. This medication is used to replenish the lacking iron, stimulate red blood cell production, and alleviate the symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

Iron as 100 mg once daily. Taken before, during, or after meals.

Child dose

Children aged 12 years and older but less than 19 years: Take 50 mg once, twice a day. Children aged 1 year and older to under 12 years: Take 50 mg once, 1 to 2 times a day. Children under 1 year: Iron as 1 dose.

Precautions

This medication contains iron, and if accidentally ingested in large amounts by children under 6 years old, it can lead to serious poisoning and potentially death; therefore, it should be stored in a safe place out of reach of children. Patients with an allergic reaction to this drug, certain diseases with iron metabolism issues, and those with non-iron deficiency anemia or chronic pancreatitis, or liver cirrhosis should not take this medication. While using this medication, it is advisable not to take it in conjunction with drugs containing phosphates or calcium salts, and other non-oral iron supplements. Taking these medications together may interfere with iron absorption. Also, it is best to avoid tea containing tannins, such as green tea or black tea, and milk or dairy products before and after taking this medication as these can hinder iron absorption. If you are suffering from specific conditions or receiving treatment from a doctor, infants under 12 months of age, patients with peptic ulcers, or those with heart and kidney dysfunction should consult with a doctor or pharmacist before taking this medication. If symptoms such as hives, itching, skin hypersensitivity, abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever occur during use, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a professional. This medication must be taken according to the prescribed dosage and method, and if symptoms do not improve or worsen, consult with a doctor. Supervision by a guardian is necessary especially when administering to children. During use, check iron levels through blood tests to avoid overdose, and consuming with fruit or vegetable juice may enhance absorption. Finally, this medication should be stored in a dark container to protect it from light, in a cool, dry place, out of the reach of children. Also, do not transfer it to another container, and be cautious not to misuse or abuse it.
