Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or vomiting may occur. Other symptoms may include shivering, fever, dizziness, and in children, changes in skin color or urine color may be evident. Administering this medication rapidly in large amounts may lower the calcium levels in the blood, leading to various side effects. In such cases, a specialist may administer calcium supplements as needed. This medication must only be used if the anticoagulant is well mixed, and it should be mixed multiple times to ensure good mixing with the blood. A blood type test must be performed prior to transfusion, and it should not be used if the blood exhibits discoloration or abnormalities. The blood transfusion set must be a product with a filter, and care should be taken to avoid causing any damage to the blood storage container. Additionally, caution should be exercised to avoid administering the blood warmed above body temperature. The blood containing this medication should be stored between 1°C and 6°C, with temperature changes not exceeding 2°C.
