This medication is widely used for various endocrine diseases, rheumatic disorders, collagen diseases, skin disorders, allergies, and ophthalmic diseases, gastrointestinal problems, respiratory diseases, and blood disorders. For example, it can improve endocrine disorders such as adrenal cortical insufficiency or thyroid disease and help prevent acute exacerbations of joint diseases like rheumatoid arthritis or ankylosing spondylitis. It is also effective in alleviating the symptoms of collagen diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus and severe skin conditions. It is utilized for treating severe allergic reactions, asthma, and atopic dermatitis; it is also used for inflammatory diseases in ophthalmology and gastrointestinal inflammation, as well as respiratory diseases like pulmonary tuberculosis. It is useful in managing blood disorders and specific tumors, and for treating acute exacerbations of neurological diseases. This drug is used to improve and treat symptoms of various diseases by regulating complex inflammation and immune responses.
For prednisolone, the usual adult dosage is 5-60 mg orally divided into 1-4 doses per day. Adjustments may be made based on age and symptoms.
This medication should be administered carefully to patients with infections as it may worsen the infection. Additionally, it should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or those with virulent infections such as herpes simplex, shingles, or chickenpox. It contains lactose, so it should not be given to patients with lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with certain diseases such as glaucoma, tuberculosis, cataracts, hypertension, thrombosis, myocardial infarction, peptic ulcers, psychiatric disorders, and osteoporosis should use this medication cautiously. Special attention is also required for the elderly, epileptic patients, diabetic patients, and those with renal failure. This drug may suppress adrenal function, so sudden discontinuation after long-term use may be dangerous; it should be tapered gradually. Moreover, it can impair immune function, increasing the risk of infection, so symptoms of infection should be monitored closely. During treatment with this drug, vaccination with live vaccines should be avoided, and the patient must inform the healthcare provider of any other medications being taken due to numerous drug interactions. Women who are pregnant or nursing must consult a physician before use as it may affect the fetus or newborn. In children, there is a possibility of growth retardation, so it should be used with caution at the minimum effective dose while monitoring closely. This medication should be stored out of the reach of children, and if side effects occur, the healthcare provider should be consulted immediately.
Cold sweat, pallor, breathing difficulties, hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, severe rashes with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes, difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme fatigue, sudden severe headaches, lightning headaches, seizures, confusion, vision abnormalities, paralysis, urinary changes.
Induction of infections, worsening of infections, suppression of adrenal corticotropic hormone secretion, secondary adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, menstrual irregularities, Cushing's syndrome, growth suppression in children, decreased glucose tolerance, buffalo hump, peptic ulcers, pancreatitis, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, heartburn, abdominal distension, thirst, loss of appetite, increased appetite, psychological disorders, depression, euphoria, insomnia, headache, dizziness, seizures, and papilledema accompanying increased intracranial pressure.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to protect it from air and moisture. This will help maintain its effectiveness for a longer period.
