Surface anesthesia and lubrication during urethral and endoscopic examinations, relieving pain from cystitis and urethritis.
This medication provides surface anesthesia and lubrication during cystoscopy, catheter insertion, and urethral surgeries, reducing discomfort for patients. It is also used for anesthesia of the nasal cavity and pharynx during upper gastrointestinal endoscopy or bronchoscopy. It effectively relieves pain during rectal examinations and intubation. Additionally, it helps relieve pain associated with conditions like cystitis and urethritis, enhancing treatment efficacy. It is used to improve pain and discomfort during various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
1. Urethral anesthesia 1) Male urethral surface anesthesia: Inject 20 mL (400 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate), slowly inserting 10 mL (200 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate), and apply a penile clamp to the corona for a few minutes before injecting the remaining medication. In cases where anesthesia is particularly important, such as with the cystoscopic method, a larger amount (for example, 30-40 mL of this drug) may be divided into 3-4 administrations. 2) Female urethral surface anesthesia: Inject 5-10 mL (100-200 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate) of this drug. 2. During endoscopic procedures: Inject 10-20 mL (200-400 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate) of this drug, applying a small amount to the instruments if lubrication is required. 3. For lubrication during bronchial intubation: Apply approximately 5 mL (100 mg of lidocaine hydrochloride monohydrate) to the surface of the tube just before insertion. Care must be taken to ensure that this drug does not enter the tube. Adjust dosage appropriately based on age, area of anesthesia, site, tissue, symptoms, constitution, and overall condition.
This drug is an amide local anesthetic and should not be used by individuals allergic to this drug or similar components. Caution is advised for patients with wounds or infections at the application site, epilepsy, impaired heart or liver function, and those in severe shock. This drug contains propylene glycol, which requires caution if there is an allergy or sensitivity to this component. During use, symptoms of shock such as hypotension, facial pallor, arrhythmia, and respiratory distress may occur, so patients should be closely monitored. It may affect the central nervous system and cause symptoms like tremors or seizures, which should result in immediate cessation and appropriate medical treatment. Drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, and nausea may also occur, requiring careful observation. Heart function may be inhibited, leading to serious issues like hypotension, bradycardia, or cardiac arrest, which should be approached with caution. Allergic reactions such as hives or edema may appear on the skin. It is advisable to be prepared for immediate emergency treatment when using a local anesthetic. To prevent side effects, the patient’s condition should be thoroughly checked, utilizing the minimum necessary dosage, and especially for surface anesthesia in the airway, using a small amount is safe. When used in the mouth, there is a risk of aspiration due to decreased swallowing ability, and caution is needed to avoid injury from chewing or biting if the tongue or mouth becomes numb. Care should be taken to prevent the drug from entering the intubation tube during endotracheal intubation, and overdose should be avoided when given rectally, as excessive doses may lead to systemic absorption resulting in central nervous system side effects. Using this medication together with antiarrhythmics may amplify side effects, hence caution is required when used concurrently. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should only use this drug if the benefits of treatment are determined to outweigh potential risks, as its safety has not been established. This drug can also be transmitted through breast milk, but it is reported that it does not pose significant risk to the baby at typical therapeutic doses.
