Precautions
This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to aminoglycoside antibiotics. During use, symptoms such as eyelid itching, swelling, redness, erythematous conjunctivitis, and temporary burning in the eyes may occur; if these symptoms appear, use should be discontinued immediately. Occasionally, irritation or a sensation of irritation may occur, so caution is required. Severe systemic reactions such as skin rash, urticaria, and anaphylaxis may occur due to allergic reactions; if there are any abnormal symptoms, consult a doctor immediately. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, the sensitivity of the infectious bacteria should be checked, and it should only be used for the minimum necessary duration. If there has been a history of allergic reactions or shock, it is advisable to confirm safety through a thorough medical history and skin reaction tests. When using this drug together with systemically administered aminoglycosides, there is a possibility of side effects such as neurotoxicity, ototoxicity, and nephrotoxicity; therefore, blood concentrations should be monitored regularly. During treatment, avoid wearing contact lenses, and if there are any abnormal symptoms during long-term repeated use, discontinue and seek appropriate treatment as resistance to other bacteria may occur. This medication may delay the healing of corneal wounds, so caution is needed. In patients with neuromuscular diseases such as myasthenia gravis or Parkinson's disease, this medication may exacerbate muscle weakness; therefore, it should be used with caution. When used in conjunction with anticoagulants, the risk of bleeding may increase; thus, continuous monitoring of blood coagulation status is necessary, and the anticoagulant dose should be adjusted if needed. During pregnancy, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and during breastfeeding, it may be harmful to the baby, so breastfeeding should be discontinued or administered under medical supervision. In case of overdose, symptoms such as eye inflammation, redness, increased tear production, swelling, and itching may appear; therefore, blood concentrations should be monitored, and blood dialysis should be considered if necessary. Do not inject directly into the eye and take care to ensure the tip of the tube does not touch the eye to prevent contamination of the medication. There have been reports of bacteria that have developed resistance to this medication, so caution is required regarding the development of resistant bacteria during use.
