Improvement of symptoms and urinary flow in benign prostatic hyperplasia, reduction of the need for surgery
This medication helps improve symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. It reduces the enlarged prostatic tissue, facilitating urinary flow, and decreases the frequency of acute urinary retention. It also reduces the need for prostate surgery, thereby alleviating the treatment burden for patients. Therefore, this drug is used for the alleviation and treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms.
Administer 5 mg of finasteride orally once daily, regardless of meals. Treatment for a minimum of 6 months is necessary even if symptoms improve during administration.
This drug should not be used in children and women. Special care must be taken to avoid handling this medication in broken piece form, especially for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. This medication may affect mental health, so if symptoms of depression or mood changes occur, consult a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with allergic reactions to this drug or certain genetic diseases should avoid its use. Patients with liver dysfunction should use this drug cautiously. Generally, this medication has few side effects and is considered safe, but issues related to sexual function or skin rashes may occur. Rarely, long-term use may increase the risk of breast cancer and high-grade prostate cancer, so caution is warranted. This drug has minimal interactions with other medications, but it is advisable to consult a doctor before use. Pregnant women should avoid taking or coming into contact with this drug, and nursing mothers should also avoid using it. The safety for children has not been established, so it is not used. Elderly patients can use it without special dosage adjustments. This drug may affect PSA levels during prostate cancer tests, so care should be taken in interpreting test results. There is no specific antidote for overdose, but recommended dosages should be adhered to. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and it is safer not to transfer it to another container.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), difficulty breathing, severe allergic reactions, severe skin reactions (severe rash, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eyes), liver abnormalities (yellowing of skin or eyes, severe fatigue), serious neurological symptoms (sudden and very severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, confusion, visual disturbances, paralysis)

This medication should be stored at room temperature below 30 degrees Celsius, in a container that blocks light and air. Proper storage preserves the medication's effectiveness and prevents degradation.
