Precautions

It is very important not to administer this drug to women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as to nursing mothers. This drug should not be used in patients with gastrointestinal bleeding or mechanical obstruction, or perforation, as it may stimulate gastric motility and worsen the condition. Administration of this drug should be avoided in patients with specific tumors such as pheochromocytoma, as it poses a risk of increased blood pressure. Patients who have allergic reactions to this drug or have no tolerance should not use it, and it should be avoided in patients with poor liver function or those in the manic phase of bipolar disorder. Additionally, caution is needed for patients with malignant mammary disease, as this drug may increase prolactin secretion, potentially causing breast-related side effects. Careful administration is required in hypertensive patients, children, and the elderly, with particular caution for children who may show extrapyramidal symptoms, hence avoiding overdose is essential. While taking this drug, hormonal-related abnormal symptoms such as amenorrhea, excessive milk secretion, and gynecomastia may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Extrapyramidal symptoms such as tremors or restlessness may also rarely occur; if such symptoms appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Prolonged use may lead to involuntary movements around the mouth and gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Cardiac side effects such as hypertension or arrhythmia may occur, so careful monitoring of cardiac health is crucial. Rarely, serious adverse effects known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome may occur, in which case immediate discontinuation of the drug and emergency treatment are required if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered consciousness appear. Additionally, side effects such as rash, swelling, insomnia, dizziness, erectile dysfunction, and others may occur, so consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary if symptoms arise. During treatment with this medication, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. Additionally, caution is needed regarding interactions with other medications; particularly, when taken with anticholinergics, narcotic analgesics, digitalis preparations, and other neuroleptics, the risk of side effects may increase, so thorough consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary. It is advisable not to administer this drug to pregnant or nursing mothers as safety for the fetus or newborn has not been established. Elderly patients should be mindful of drug accumulation due to decreased kidney function, necessitating dosage adjustments and monitoring for adverse reactions. Finally, while this drug is effective in alleviating vomiting symptoms, it should be used cautiously in cases of poisoning, intestinal obstruction, and vomiting due to brain tumors, and caution is needed for prolonged use as animal studies have reported potential effects on reproductive function.
