This medication is used for ulcers in the stomach and duodenum, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease, and is also effective in preventing Mendelson's syndrome that can occur during anesthesia before surgery. It helps treat gastric ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It improves damage such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling of the gastric mucosa during acute exacerbations of acute and chronic gastritis as well as upper gastrointestinal bleeding. Additionally, it alleviates symptoms of gastric acid excess, heartburn, and reflux, thereby overall helping digestive health. This medication is used to improve gastrointestinal health and treat various gastric-related diseases.

For duodenal ulcer patients, it is administered 300 mg orally twice a day, in the morning and before bed. For recurrent ulcer patients, maintenance therapy includes a dosage of 150 mg once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who have had allergic reactions to its ingredients or have a history of acute porphyria. Patients with poor kidney function may need to reduce the dosage or increase the dosing interval as this medication can remain in the body for a longer time. Patients with impaired liver function should also use it with caution. Patients with a history of drug allergies or elderly patients, as well as those taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), should be monitored closely while using this drug. This medication may mask symptoms of stomach cancer, so those with gastric ulcers or any newly developed indigestion symptoms in individuals aged middle-aged and above should confirm malignancy before use. Patients with duodenal ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori require eradication therapy for the bacteria. This medication may rarely cause severe allergic reactions, blood abnormalities, liver dysfunction, cardiac rhythm problems, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological abnormalities, myalgia, skin rashes, etc., and should be stopped immediately if any abnormal symptoms occur and consult a doctor. During treatment, the course of the disease should be closely observed and used only as necessary; if ineffective, alternative treatment should be considered. Elderly individuals, patients with chronic lung diseases, diabetes, or weakened immunity may be at increased risk of pneumonia, so caution is advised. If dizziness or drowsiness occurs following administration of this medication, avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery. When used with other medications, absorption or metabolism may be affected, so inform your doctor or pharmacist, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this drug cautiously, as its safety has not been established and it should only be used when necessary. In children, safety has not been sufficiently confirmed, so caution is required. In cases of overdose, while serious problems are rare, treatments such as vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary, and in severe cases, dialysis may be needed. Keep this medication out of reach of children and do not transfer it to other containers for safety. Due to this medication's reduction in gastric acid secretion, prolonged use may lead to an increase in gastric bacteria, necessitating caution with long-term use. It is advisable to have an eye health check during long-term administration.
