Improvement of symptoms related to the stomach (ulcer, gastritis) and excess gastric acid, and relief of constipation.
This medication helps to neutralize stomach acids associated with gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and excessive gastric acid, thus improving symptoms. It is also used to relieve symptoms of constipation. Therefore, it is effective in improving both gastrointestinal issues and constipation.
For gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastritis, and excessive gastric acid, magnesium oxide should be orally administered in divided doses of 0.5-1 g daily. For constipation, 2 g should be orally administered 1-2 times a day. The initial dose should be the minimum amount, gradually increasing or decreasing while observing the shape and condition of the stool.
This medication should not be used in patients with severely impaired kidney function. If the kidneys do not function well, the components of this drug can accumulate in the body and cause dangerous conditions. It is also advisable not to administer this medication to patients with diarrhea. Caution should be exercised when using this medication in patients with weak heart function, those with already high magnesium levels, and in elderly individuals over 65 years of age. During the course of taking this medication, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea may occur, so monitoring is necessary. If taken in large quantities for a long period, magnesium levels in the body may become too high, so regular checks on the condition should be made. If dizziness, slowed pulse, severe drowsiness, decreased consciousness, difficulty breathing, or muscle weakness occurs after taking, the use should be immediately stopped and a doctor or pharmacist consulted. In cases of magnesium toxicity, potassium salt injections may be necessary. This drug may interfere with the absorption of certain antibiotics in the tetracycline family, so it is advisable not to take them together. In addition, this drug can alter the gastrointestinal environment, affecting the absorption or excretion of other drugs, so caution is advised. Taking it with large amounts of milk or calcium preparations can lead to a condition called milk-alkali syndrome; therefore, if such symptoms occur, use should be discontinued and monitored. Lastly, this medication is prone to absorb moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, so it should be stored in a dry place.
