Efficacy & effects
Anesthesia effects for dental areas via infiltration and conduction
View approved original textHide original text
Conduction and infiltration anesthesia in dental areas are primarily used to block pain in specific local areas. Conduction anesthesia blocks nerves, eliminating sensation over a wider area, while infiltration anesthesia reduces localized pain by directly injecting the medication into a specific area. These two methods effectively alleviate discomfort and pain for patients during dental procedures.
How it is given
Adult administration
For conduction anesthesia or infiltration anesthesia, 6-40 milligrams of lidocaine hydrochloride (0.3-2 milliliters of this product) should be used. In the area of oral surgery, 60-100 milligrams of lidocaine hydrochloride (3-5 milliliters of this product) should be used.
Precautions
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients with severe bleeding or in shock, those with inflammation at the injection site, or patients with sepsis. Patients who are allergic to this medication or similar local anesthetics, those who are hypersensitive to vasoconstrictors, and patients with high blood pressure, heart conditions, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, or vascular spasms should also avoid its use. Caution is necessary for patients with central nervous system disorders, pregnant women, the elderly, patients with spinal deformities, and those taking certain anesthetics or antidepressants. Due to the presence of potassium metabisulfite, allergic reactions or asthma attacks may occur, so asthmatic patients should be particularly careful. Adverse reactions may include shock, hypotension, abnormal pulse, and respiratory depression; therefore, patients should be closely monitored during administration. Additionally, serious symptoms such as malignant hyperthermia, muscle rigidity, and a rapid rise in body temperature may occur rarely, and if these symptoms appear, administration should be immediately stopped and appropriate treatment provided. Central nervous system symptoms may include tremors, convulsions, drowsiness, anxiety, dizziness, and nausea, requiring caution. Allergic reactions may result in skin rashes or swelling, and rarely a severe immune response such as anaphylaxis may occur. When using this medication, one should be prepared for immediate emergency treatment and use the lowest possible dosage with a dilute concentration to reduce the risk of adverse reactions. When injecting, care should be taken to avoid the needle entering a blood vessel, and it is important to administer slowly. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use this medication only after carefully considering the necessity and risks, as its safety has not been established. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the medication, so their condition should be closely observed and dosage adjustments should be made with caution. Lastly, this medication should not be used for ophthalmic purposes.
