Precautions
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. For example, it should not be used in patients who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients, in patients who have received live vaccines, or in patients with herpes simplex, shingles, or chickenpox. Additionally, caution should be exercised in patients with infections or systemic fungal infections, as this medication can suppress immune function and worsen infections. This medication contains lactose and should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic issues. Patients with existing conditions such as glaucoma, tuberculosis, hypertension, thrombosis, peptic ulcers, psychiatric disorders, and osteoporosis should use this medication with particular caution. This medication can increase intraocular pressure, elevate blood pressure, and decrease bone density, thus posing a risk of exacerbating existing conditions. Long-term use of this medication can lead to various side effects such as adrenal insufficiency, diabetes, peptic ulcers, mental disorders, osteoporosis, fluid retention, and increased intraocular pressure, necessitating regular monitoring and testing. Particularly, during the course of this medication, there may be increased susceptibility to infections, so attention to infection symptoms is crucial, and if infection is suspected, immediate consultation with medical personnel is necessary. Moreover, this medication can interact with several other drugs, so if other medications are being taken, it is essential to inform the physician or pharmacist. For example, dosage adjustments or caution may be necessary when combined with anticoagulants, antihypertensives, antidiabetic agents, and antibiotics. Women who are pregnant or potentially pregnant should use this medication only when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks to the fetus, and if breastfeeding, they should discontinue nursing. When administered to children, caution should be exercised due to the risk of growth retardation, and the minimum effective dose should be used. Long-term administration should be monitored for potential side effects like increased intracranial pressure. Elderly patients are at higher risk for side effects such as infections, diabetes, osteoporosis, and hypertension, requiring even more caution. Finally, diabetic patients may experience sudden vision loss or blurred vision while taking this medication, necessitating regular ophthalmologic examinations.
