Samnam Dexamethasone Tablet

Adult dose

As dexamethasone, administer usually 0.5-8mg per day for adults, divided into 1-4 doses orally. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

Child dose

As dexamethasone, administer usually 0.15-4mg per day for children, divided into 1-4 doses orally. Adjust according to age and symptoms.

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients with allergies to this drug or its components, those who have received live vaccines, those with herpes simplex, varicella, and infections without appropriate antimicrobial treatment or systemic fungal infections. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic metabolic disorders should not use it. When using this drug, caution should be taken in patients with glaucoma, tuberculosis, cataract, hypertension, thrombosis, those who have recently undergone surgery, heart disease patients, gastroduodenal ulcers, psychiatric disorders, osteoporosis, and those with various conditions, and consult a specialist if necessary. This medication can suppress immune function, potentially increasing the risk of infections, so caution is also needed in patients with infections, diabetes, renal failure, or liver disease. Side effects may include worsening of infections, increased blood sugar, gastrointestinal disturbances, psychological changes, osteoporosis, hypertension, eye disorders, skin problems, etc., so notify healthcare professionals immediately if symptoms occur and receive appropriate measures. Long-term use may lead to adrenal insufficiency, withdrawal symptoms, and increased risk of infections, so do not suddenly discontinue use but gradually reduce dosage according to medical advice. This medication should not be used with live vaccines, and extra caution should be taken with infections such as varicella or measles during immunosuppressive states. Seek prompt medical attention if infections are suspected or occur. Furthermore, this medication may interact with other drugs, so inform healthcare professionals if taking other medications. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks of using this drug, as it may affect the fetus, and it is advisable to avoid use while breastfeeding. In children, effects such as growth retardation may occur, so it should be used at the minimum effective dose under careful observation. Elderly patients may be at greater risk for side effects such as infections, diabetes, osteoporosis, and eye disorders, so careful management is especially important. Lastly, diabetic patients should be monitored closely for symptoms such as visual impairment or blurred vision, as these may arise suddenly.

Serious side effects

Urticaria, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, rash, anaphylactic reactions, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), profound malaise, sudden and severe headache, thunderclap headache, seizures, loss of consciousness.
